who is assasinating Aaron? the guy was retired and obviously was content not playing football unless motivated by an large sum of money for a portion of a season? How is that an assasination? Not relying on a weak Schobel argument that the admin is cheap doesnt care about winning is hardly a sign of admin support. It's called being a reasonable person. A smart admin basher can do much better if they really try.
It will be a shame if that window closes before management even realizes it was ever open to begin with...
 Exactly. I wouldn't agree that Justice is a joke - he definitely has quality sources - but the title alone shows that the blog is quite tongue-in-cheek, as most of his are. If he had real, credible inside information on Asomugha's thoughts, he wouldn't put it in a blog post titled that. But in today's "nugget" world, bloggers pull things out of context and make them seem like they're something they aren't. It's a complete non-story.
If you are a texans fan and don't want Aso on this team, you don't care about winning. Simple as that.
"There is no possible way you can see things different from the way I see them and still have noble, rational, or logical intentions." "Simple as that."
what term shall we employ, then? I'll let you choose: - Mediot - Namedropper - Flip-flopper - "Writer of Wrongs" (thank you, Puma) - Pot-stirrer - Drivelbag - Douche
i don't know anyone who doesnt want him. Texans just aren't going to get him because of a simple idea...if he truly wants to go to a contender he won't take a gamble here. (Even though i do think he would elevate the texans to a potential contender in the next year or two)
I'd say somebody not wanting Nnamdi on this team, regardless of price, is quite simply overthinking/being a worry wart. The time for timidity has passed. You have the need and the money, he has the skill and the availability. Make. It. Happen.
then you'd be guilty of the same logical error. disagree with the take all you like (and I am with you and TheRealist on this particular issue, btw). but making judgments about someone's motives, emotional state, or character based on their position in an argument is just stupid. you said it yourself yesterday (looking it up...) in this very thread: "Richard Justice knows what Nnamdi Asomugha is thinking like I know what the f***ing lotto numbers are tomorrow." you don't know anything about the other person. and to say they don't want to win is just stupid. who the hell wants his team to lose?
I'm allowed to guess what they're thinking. It's not like I'm calling them mother-humpers or something. I can logically see how/why somebody would be against throwing money at Nnamdi, and those are the logical reasons I see. Do you have a major problem with that? I'm not assuming they want us to lose (stupid), nor am I a writer at a major newspaper floating rumors (also stupid). If you can think of another reason someone would be against getting Nnamdi, I'm all ears.
but Dick Justice isn't? through your filter, from your point of view. do you not see how small that is? the very foundation of open-minded discussion is allowing for other people's viewpoints without presuming to dissect what their motives or inner logic may be when you don't know that any more than "I know tomorrow's ****ing lotto numbers." why are you asking me? why don't you ask them instead of making demeaning assumptions ("timidity", "worry wart", etc.) there have been perfectly reasonable arguments in this very thread. I don't concur with them, but I'm not going to say they're "worry-warts", "timid", or "want to lose", either. I will provide one example: "let's take that $18MM and get two nice players instead of one megastar." I don't agree, but how is that "worry wart" or "timid"? Dude wants to get two pieces at an average of $9MM.
QFT. The Texans are the only franchise in Houston with superstars. Actually, we might have a few in AJ, Foster, Mario, and Demeco. We have young talent on both sides of the ball. We have a damn good QB. All we need is for coaching to put it all together. I'm pumped for this season. Nmadi would be bonerific but I'll be content with Taylor or Joseph.
Johnathan Joseph is a pretty damn good CB from what I've seen of him. If Nnamdi is a 10, I'd say he's near an 8.
I was pretty upset for not signing Schobel too. But I just feel that Smith got cocky after that 9-7 season and belittled Dunta's contribution to the defensive backfield. The conversation between Smith and Mcnair probably went something like this. Smith: "B-mac, How is my god son doing? Look, I've been doing some heavy thinking. Yeah, there is no need to resign #23. I'm telling you.. I got this. We'll draft a cornerback and he will basically contribute the same as #23. F' #23. Nobody embarrasses me like that. Pay me ric...pssssh." Bob: "Are you sure that we don't need dunta? I really like the way he plays the line backer position! He gets in there with the Ox!" Smith:" I'm positive we don't need #23! Just trust me on this and I will save you millions, big poppa." (jumps up and down thinking how proud Mcnair will be of him for saving him cash) Bob: "What do you know about this Bodden kid? We could make Leigh an offer that he can't refuse!" Bodden refused. Winning time is now. They know that their arses are on the line and by now, they also realize how important it is to have experience at that corner back position. Not only will Nnamdi(or another Veteran CB) make the defense better, but he will serve as a mentor to all the other young cbs, like dunta always crediting Aaron glenn for helping him make the transition during his rookie campaign.
We have to try. Does anyone really think you can "coach up" Jackson's total lack of recovery speed. He is gonna require safety help on almost every pass play. Nnamdi turns the other teams best guy into a guy who just runs a route every down to keep Nnamdi away from the other guys routes. If we plug in an above average CB we are still gonna be burned a lot cause he is gonna be on an island and sometimes the top receivers win that battle for 6. We need the best.
This aint the NBA, you can't just ride a superstar or two and be a title contender (with the exception of having a superstar QB). It takes a lot more than that to have a special football team, which is why my expectation is 9-7 or worse. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I'd say a professional sports writer has a little more obligation to be careful about what he writes than I, Donald Rutherford Most, does. I'd say I took a very reasonable stance on this subject based on the information provided to me, and the history I have with the posters whom I'm commenting on. I have a little information to work on here, msn. Can't really believe it bothers you that much. I'm not being disrespectful, I'm not making wild McCarthy-esqe accusations. Chill, bro. Because you're the one who seems to think my assertion is so wildly off-base, so I figure you might have some other perspective to offer on why or what might cause someone to not want Nnamdi here. Good lord, THAT's demeaning to you? Wow. So, if someone called me "aggressive" or "anxious" in response to my "at-all-costs" philosophy about signing Nnamdi, would you find that demeaning? Give me a break, man. I didn't see anybody offer that alternative (seems like worry about salary and age considerations were most prevalent). Thanks for actually providing a reason, like I had asked, instead of being a jerk. To me that seems like a more timid, less risk averse move (think about it like spreading out a stock portfolio). If you can sign Nnamdi, you should do it. It should be priority 1. Your option seems like a nice back-up plan, though, albeit less sexy. In the Texans' eyes, I think they will probably go with whatever plan falls into place first. If the ink dries first on Nnamdi's contract, then that will be all she wrote for Uncle Bob's checkbook. If Taylor or Joseph sign first, then we can kiss Nnamdi goodbye, but there may be more moves left to make. Beggars can't be choosers at this point.
My point was that we have franchise players on both sides of the ball. We all saw Larry Fitzgerald carry his team to the Super Bowl. The Saints came out of nowhere. So did the Packers..well kind of. Plus, it's too early to make predictions until we see how the FO addresses the secondary.
not that it "bothers" me, but that I *always* point at this logical error, even when it's mild (as in your case here). and yes, "worry-wart" and "timidity" are demeaning terms. doesn't upset me, though. just pointing out the obvious. next time I call you a "worry-wart" we'll see how kindly you take to it. always discuss the argument, not the arguer. it's that simple. for example: I truly didn't intend to piss you off that much (perhaps you can follow your advice to "chill"?). I'm just pointing out this all-too-common logical error. I'm not upset about it. You correctly called out one guy for presuming to know what someone is thinking yesterday, you do the same thing yourself today, and I point it out. Without calling one name or making one assumption about your intention or motive. If that makes me a jerk, so be it. I'm sorry to have upset you. The fact remains: you don't know what that other poster thinks or feels any more than I "know tomorrows ****ing lotto numbers."
