This kind of upsets me. The hysteria surrounding HAARP is absurd. No one who writes about it knows a damn thing about the science. And thanks to that ignorance we have ridiculous conspiracy theories.

First of all HAARP is really several things but the thing most people talk about is nothing more than a glorified radio transmitter that fires radio frequencies at the ionosphere. Yet for some reason (mostly because of an episode of the x-files) apparently its capable of manipulating weather, causing earthquakes, launching EMPs at other countries, etc..

This all started because the brother of current senator Mark Begich writes a non-sensical book about how HAARP is part of some project to beat the Russians through weather warfare among other things. And because its on military owned land, its an easy target for the crazies to make stuff up.

Yet HAARP isnt even the first of its kind. They've had a similar project in Puerto Rico for decades. There is another similar program in Europe. Ionospheric research has been happening for decades yet all of a sudden we're using it to destroy the lives of our citizens. (while no one else is?)

I find it fairly insulting to those who are struggling with this that one can simply have the audacity to say the government is causing this with no scientific evidence of any kind.
