op is one of those fans that were crying "sign lebron" when he was a FA.. smh, you act like morey can just make **** happen, just because.. this isnt 2k11..
There's no doubt that Morey needs to show us that he can run the Rockets and turn them into contenders starting this year. It's difficult to do your job effectively and to the 'T' with large handicaps that have already been mentioned in this thread. This will be his first year un-handicapped. I believe a large portion of Morey's trade have been genius. In the large scale trades in which multiple teams are involved, there is collective worth out there that can be had by someone who is willing, able, and crafty enough to get it. This is called thinking at the margin hundreds of times a day with respect to organizational duties in order to get to the bigger picture. Some people like to refer to trades as 'getting a steal'. What is stealing? I define it as taking something away from someone else without a proper equal market value exchange. Would anyone in their right mind of traded a T-Mac headed down the drain and Carl Landry for an efficient, well-mannered and coachable 2 guard who gets to the foul letter better than anyone else in the league? Heeeelllll no. Morey effectively stole worth from the talent market due to smart deals in the margin and mark-up/perception. People still thought T-Mac had all-star potential and were drawn to him simple because of his name and past accomplishments. Carl Landry was a rising young talent with a high ceiling who's value might even climb higher, so teams valued him higher than than should have. He took a higher perceived value to others teams and turned that into actual potential and statistical value that you see today. All that 'hard-to-understand-mumbo-jumbo- isn't BS, it's actual analysis that depends on 100% confidence and execution. There is no doubt that T-Mac's and Yao's contracts hampered execution. Think before you speak.
Understood. He is really in the 'MUST SHOW SOMETHING' stage of his Rocket Tenure for me. I need to see some results. Esp. since he fired the coach [and yes I do mean FIRED] Rocket River Rocket River
If OHMSS ever decided to visit Houston, maybe this is what he'd say-- OHMSS at Christian's Tailgate: "This is horrible! Most overrated burger ever. You think you can impress me with your mass of meat, well guess what, Hamburgers were invented in Europe, yeah that's right, that's why we call it HAMBURG, where we do it the RIGHT way." OHMSS at Rice: "This is the worst university in the US. Even our secondary schools in Spain have better architecture." OHMSS at Minute Maid Park: "What an ugly retractable roof. And look at that grass! Most incompetent groundskeeper ever. Vassilis Spanoulis' mother does a hundred times better job with her lawn. In Greece she is the equivalent of your country's Chuck Norris: she looks at the grass and it stops growing out of fear." OHMSS at the Vietnamese massage parlor: "Saddest. Ending. Ever." OHMSS in Galveston: "This is the worst beach in the history of the Earth and all its beaches, even that primordial one that bore the ooze." Ok, he would be right with that last one.
Yeah he totally sucks that Morey signed him for 5 years and then gets rid of him..and Artest sucks too he only has a 1 championship ring. I feel that whatever I say about Morey and if we give him another 5 years and the blame game will continue to be pointed outwards amongst these Daryl ONly fans. Next year they suck again, they'll blame the coach or they'll blame Yao's injury. The next year they'll blame the nba lockout worries for their bad performance. And the next year, only god knows.
His 1st task was to get good role players to complement Yao & TMac, which he did. However Yao & TMac were injured beyond repair. Now his task is to get another Yao & TMac. That task is 100 times harder than the 1st one, so I'd say another 4 years is a reasonable amount of time to give him.
He has 'SHOWN SOMETHING' throughout his tenure. The organization has made a host of smart trades and acquisitions while refraining from signing any Elton Brand cap-killers. We've been on the cusp of the playoffs in the last two years without our two superstars, and without mortgaging our future. Here's another way to think of it. Just about everyone agrees that RC Buford is the best GM in the NBA. If the Spurs lost Duncan and Parker forever, do you think they'd be title contenders again two years later? Of course not. Buford is a good GM, not a sorcerer. Sam Presti is another GM universally well-regarded around the league. Take away Durant and Westbrook. Would they be in the championship hunt within two seasons? Of course not. Morey's done a hell of a job keeping this team in the playoff hunt without mortgaging the future, and acquiring a superstar without very high lottery picks or a flashy city to play in is one of the hardest things to do in sports. Let's let the man work.
It took you a whole 2 days to come up with that? Bravo. It was pretty clear that I was referring to the OP in my post, not you. Your childishly weak attempt at a comeback towards something not even directed at you is pretty funny though.
You know what attracts players? Money. The rockets have some thanks to Morey. Imagine if he gave Brooks an extension early in the regular season.
Morey's track record suggests he will not be using much of that money, if at all, which amounts to anything more than the MLE.
I like to think of it this way: "White cat ginger cat black cat, any cat is good as long as it can catch mice" Has Morey caught any mice? No. I feel its pointless to point out how Morey was such a resounding success in getting Martin, Lee, Budinger, Ariza, or whatever. Because it really led us to nowhere. As soon as the 2009 season finished, Morey should have cleaned house. Because if he needed to prove himself before going onto drastic changes, he did it in 2009 during the playoffs. After that he could do whatever he wanted because he already has a proven track record. Once T-Mac and Artest was gone, there was no point for us to win anymore. Yao should have NEVER been relied on as the guy who could carry the franchise. Even if Morey had gotten Anthony/Williams, this team would have never been more than a 5th seed anyways. Ariza/Martin/Scola extension/Miller, were pointless moves that set us back 2 years, as can be evidently seen now. Its time for us to rebuild, and if we don't do it this season, then Morey needs to go.
LOL what are you talking about? Landry was an insanely efficient (and clutch) scorer but he was a terrible rebounder and defender. Why do you think we traded him away?
Actually, Duncan is now a fraction of his former self and the Spurs still managed one of the best records in the NBA. They've accomplished this with some pretty niffty drafting without Lottery picks. Parker was a #29, and then there are Blair, Neal and Hill. (Verdict is out on Splitter). Their vet leader/role players aren't great...but neither McDyess nor Bonner cost the Spurs much of anything. Certainly not a draft pick. And they got Richard Jefferson for a song and then Jefferson (as did Duncan a few years before him) renegotiated his contract to give the team some cap flexibility. Once Duncan is truly gone from the Spurs, it will NOT take them 5 years. It didn't take them 5 years after David Robinson walked over the hill. And so you understand. I dislike the Spurs passionately. The post is Rocket-frustration driven.
