I don't think him winning a title as a role player does much for his legacy. Him leading those Nets teams to back-to-back Finals in his prime did much more for his legacy. He's already one of the great PGs ever, and a HOFer.

Here's my question. A lot of people criticized the Mavs when they traded Devin Harris for Jason Kidd years back. Maybe, perhaps, the Mavs knew what they were doing?

Agreed. That's what I think of when I think of Kidd's accomplishments.

um, actually jkidd is a good defender, and shooting 36% does not show his POINT GUARD abilities of great passing, controlling and running the offense/temp, making the right decisions...

Behind Magic Wiener, John Stockton and Isiah Thomas post 80's basketball.

Right next to Gary Payton and Steve Nash.

    (Videos of J-Kidd passing?)

    Behind Luis Scola... ;)

Without a title, he's already a hall of famer.

he became a better 3 point shooter recently, but in his past his shooting was his Achilles heel. Great passer and rebounder. Hall of Fame easily.

One of the last "true" point guards to [lay of the game, and definitely a HOFer.

Disagree. Kidd is one of the best if not the best defending pg ever.

1st ballot HOF even if he doesn't win a ring. his career has been splendid.

where he ranks among the PG ladder? he's in the top 10 that's for sure, but definitely out of the top 5.

    1) magic johnson
    2) the big O
    3) isiah thomas
    4) stockton
    5) cousy

you could put kidd here along w/ frazier, payton, archibald, and possibly nash at #10.

kidd is top 3-5 in terms of PG defense, but not the best. there's this guy nicknamed "the glove" and he's called that for a reason. he's tied w/ MJ and kobe (can you believe it, kobe?) for most all-nba defense 1st team selections in their careers.

Close to 2/3 of his fg attempts are three pointers. His adjusted fg% is actually 47.2%, which isn't terrible...

without a title i think nash's mvp's trumps kids tripple double total.

with a ring he might crack top 5.

The Mavericks are a very well ran organization from top to bottom, from the GM, scouts, coaching... etc.

I was skeptical of the Harris deal at the time, and it didn't look good at first, but it is fair to say they won that deal.

He is good, but not the best... Payton, Lever, Robertson, Cheeks, Frazier and DJ all were better defenders.

They sure did. We'll see how Harris' career turn out (sure does not look like a real star right now) but Kidd had more in the tank than anyone expected. It seems like that as long as you don't have major injuries and stay in shape, the high-IQ PGs-- Kidd, Nash, Stockton, Cassell, etc.-- can be very effective in their twilight seasons.
