I've notice there have been alot of people from the 01 draft class in this years playoffs. I'm gonna list them on their draft order. For the people that don't follow the draft alot would be surprise at some of the spots the players landed. I read somewhere on a Espn column that called this one of the worst draft ever, but imo I think it was the worst scouted ever seeing that for a couple of years the best player in that class was picked in the second round.

    2. Tyson Chandler 3. Pau Gasol 5. Jason Richardson 6. Shane Battier. 10. Joe Johnson 13. Richard Jefferson 14. Troy Murphy 19. Zach Randolph 20. Brendan Haywood 28. Tony Parker 31. Gilbert Arenas

What makes it remarkable is that its 10 years after they were drafted.

I agree, it's a very good class, these days. It's improved over time.

2003 still has more and I am not even going to count the top 5 players in that draft (of course 3 of them are with miami)

    7. Kirk Hinrich
    8. TJ Ford
    12. Nick Collison
    18. David West (did not play due to injury)
    20 Dahntay Jones
    27. Kendrick Perkins
    32. Luke Walton (probably should not have played cuz he sucks)
    38. Steve Blake
    41. Willie Green
    42. Zaza Pachulia
    43. Keith Bogans
    45. Matt Bonner
    49. James Jones
    51. Kyle Korver

17 total from that draft 8 of whom will be playing tomorrow (if including the trio in miami)

the 2001 wasnt too bad of a draft in hindsight of course its just that there was no star rookie that ESPN/NBA could bank on and market and it was the height of the "potential" drafting seeing so many high school kids being drafted that it probably made it look a lot worse than it should have. Guys who probably should have been drafted (T. Chandler) were taken far higher than they should have while others (Randolph, Arenas) fell much lower since they didnt have the same 'potential' label. So I agree with the OP in that it was the worst scouted but at the same time the scouts were probably told to look for what the player could become rather than what the player is now.

Personally I am happy to see when GMs drafted BPA nowadays rather than best possible player in 5 years since no one knows if a HS (now 1 and done) kid will become an all star or just a good rotation player. I am sure if you asked the scouts back then most would have said Chandler and not Gasol would have been the future multiple time all-star and not the specialist.
