Agree. Huckabee is ... was ... the most ethical of the candidates, but some of his religious beliefs (evolution, for example) were too extreme for the center, even the center right. Unfortunately, being a lying weasel is a prime qualification for being President these days. He has a comfy pulpit with Fox so I can understand his decision.
I think he sees that no one is likely to beat Obama and he didn't want to get branded a loser in this election. He could probably win the primary and then would get dashed in the general by an almost unbeatable Obama.
Too bad about Huck but I guess he's smart enough to realize he doesn't want to be road kill for the Gutsy Guy Machine.
This is smart for Huckabee. A lot of the poles show he could win this nomination. But with things trending the way they are, Obama is going to be a BEAR to conquer in the general. His fund raising is tremendous, the Osama thing is a huge boon for him, etc. Losing a general election kills you. It's nearly impossible to restart your presidential hopes after that. Huckabee isn't going to blow his only shot in vain against Obama in 2012.
Obama, the lying weasel to whom I referred, is the president, and I am devoted to his defeat, so, yes, I suppose he does dominate my political thoughts.
I love how people think Obama is the second great coming. If it was a Republican president in office and our economy was in the same shape as it is now, I would be begging for a good liberal to step up to the plate and replace him. I was not a fan of Bill Clinton, but Clinton was a much much better president than Obama. I don't think Huckabee would make a great president, but I do believe he is the best candidate from both sides to mend the fences some what.
Clinton didn't pass healthcare reform or kill Bin Laden. And what does it say about a party whose "best candidate" drops out before the race even begins?
What you call health care reform I call screwing up the system even worse. For liberals to hate greedy corporations, they should hate this deal as it gives more power to these greedy insurance companies. Obama didn't kill Bin Laden. The intel came on his watch. The only president who could have screwed this one is Jimmy Carter. Good Job Obama for not screwing that up ... say like health care reform. If you'd work on your reading comprehension, you would have understood that I said Huckabee wasn't the best candidate. In a year from now, Osama will be old news, but the sputtering economy will be on the minds of everyone.
Yeah 9% unemployment, declining economic growth, sub 50 approval rating, rising inflation, rising gas prices, massive deficits, a landslide loss in the 2010 election, a slew of well qualified, experienced executive GOP candidates. Plus he won 53% of the electorate last time, practically a landslide. No way Obama can lose... They are quite good at perpetuating the inevitability narrative though.
Huckabee wasn't going to win the GOP nomination and he was smart enough not to waste his time trying. Good for him. I don't think Obama had anything to do with his decision.
Well, if you were going to tour the nation and have to defend your belief in Creationism from people determined to make you look like a fool, it might give you pause. (because you are gonna look like a fool)
You keep saying these little cute talking points, including "weasel," et cetera, but that dog doesn't hunt, really, in conversation with people outside your own head. Hate his policies. Hate his manor. Hate his bearing. Hate his priorities. Whatever you want. But he has, as much as any president I can remember, done what he said he would do. Pull back from Iraq and ramp up Afghanistan (which I opposed, but he did promise it.) Go after Bin Laden. Cut taxes for 95% of us, including me and everyone I know. Push a stimulus package Push for healthcare reform (yeah, you can hate it, but where's the "lie"?) Push for a climate bill (true, and it has failed so far, but he pushed for it. where's the "lie" there?) So, I guess, the "lying" you refer to is the standard rub for a politician. Of course you have to spin things. Of course. Of course some parameters change while you're in office. Of course vague campaign slogans never actually turn bitter partisans into unicorns with rainbows streaming from their butts. But the truth is, depsite craziness from both far ends, he's been a total middle of the road pragmatist who has tried to do exactly what he said he would do. To me, that's already a big change. He's too far to the right for me, but I feel like he's what he advertised. I'm not sure why I bother. I've been enjoying spending more time in the b-ball part of clutchfans!
