thats because indie >>>>>>>>>>>>>>metal now Yea, lets drop our guitar strings all the way down and bar chords doing chug chug chug all day long while some dude sounds like he's having a seizure. I can't stand a lot of the music nowadays. It seems the world is getting more and more devoid of talent. What happened to sticking a well composed solo into a song and giving it feeling? Its just playing a scale backwards super fast now. I don't know about "Hard rock" or metal your talking about. Is it more of death metal, bullet for my valentine? Metallica sort of stuff? Children of bodom?
i remember like Dragonforce for the first week. That slowly turned from dislike to a strong loathing of the band. Same stupid riffs, crap every time. Oh and herman li's crap is sped up on the recordings. Ever since the guitar hero age, through the fire and the flames makes me want to puke everytime.
Funny you should say that: In 2005 (I think...maybe 2006?) I was at Amy's Ice Cream when I heard them for the first time. I had no idea who they were. Thinking it was maybe some Dream Theater I had never heard (it was noisy in the shop), I asked the dude behind the counter, who said it was DragonForce, and that coincidentally they had a show the next night at the Meridian. The next night I went to the show, paid some scalper $40 for a ticket (it was sold out), and I was blown away. I DL'd their albums the next day and I somehow got tired of them pretty quickly. They were great live, but their albums just didn't catch me the same way. Maybe Herman's stuff is sped up (I've never heard that but that doesn't mean it's not true), but his hands were a blur at the show and the band was super-tight. Through the Fire and the Flames is great, but I played it out. The rest of their stuff just felt like a display of speed and not much else. I agree though: I can't stand 99.99999999999999999999% of anything new these days, and that's in any genre. Maybe I'm just getting old, but considering that my tastes spread literally over centuries of styles, I'm more inclined to think music today just plain sucks.
Agree on all counts. it gets super repetitive. but if you love metal i just don't seeee how you can listen to between the buried and me and say that there's no good metal being made nowadays. all of their albums are so stunning and mesmerizing to me.
Cephalic Carnage Children Of Bodom (80's style shredding with keyboardist) Cannibal Corpse (newer stuff) Gorjira The Dillinger Escape Plan The Black Dahlia Murder The Faceless Inflames (you need this) Between The Buried and Me (as previously mentioned) Amon Amarth (Everyone likes vikings right?) More "metal" but more easy to get into for someone that doesnt normally listen to it All That Remains Killswitch Engaged Trivium Everytime I Die August Burns Red
I stumbled across this band a few months back while looking up another artist. They're not new, but they're new to me. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/2U1bnh4Nslw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ke8tXIATp1M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NMwhJ6JV25Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
drone/doom is enormous as hell. not progy at all. inb4 no talent blah blah blah. drone is not new metal. just face peeling metal. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/283ftnf8h5g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mTp-u7tXuLg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gSLRrntu2nk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sO7VP34n2Ps" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Periphery has got some cool sounding stuff. One of their own songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tvf-hFvoTRs One of Michael Jackson's songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PWpeiodxGU
check out this new video from liturgy - total audio/visual overload. i like that they do pure evil black metal w/out the costumes/corpse paint - it makes it even more scary in a way that they can be this hardcore w/out the gimmicks - that singer looks 14, but sings like a demon getting an anal probe. <script src="http://player.ooyala.com/player.js?embedCode=40ZDdmMjq3wBNSrW5RCaSNsFEMDgorZt&deepLinkEmbedCode=40ZDdmMjq3wBNSrW5RCaSNsFEMDgorZt%2C9ldzZmMjp_Mr5dLDuUVOh_hp4Or8UkVC"></script>
Let's quit pussyfooting around. If you like hard rock or any rock music, you should like this (all from 2009). <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Q-1RzQps-rM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Dvu0jVxxNNc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/maN62vI7w7E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I recently discovered Hellyeah. Their songs range from GnR type ballads to very heavy Pantera-type stuff. Turns out that they are a 'supergroup' made up of some guys from heavy rock groups. Here's a burb from wikipedia: Hellyeah is an American heavy metal supergroup, consisting of Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla, and former Pantera, Rebel Meets Rebel and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul. The idea to form a supergroup originated in 2001 on the Tattoo the Earth tour, although plans were constantly put on hold due to scheduling conflicts. The summer of 2006 allowed the band to take the project seriously and record its first album. During an interview for the January 2009 issue of Revolver magazine, vocalist Chad Gray revealed there may be hint of Hellyeah in the self-titled Mudvayne album, released December 22, 2009.<iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qyu5ckar5mQ" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="390" width="480"></iframe>
Well well done. Two of my favorite bands. I'll throw some Isis into this thread. They broke up but not before releasing 5 bad-ass albums. This is a bad ass drum cover of Garden of Light <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_rOeQ4HkLWI?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_rOeQ4HkLWI?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>
Hellyeah had potential but the singers voice is blown out hardcore now. For metal the list for me would have to be: Periphery Veil of Maya Born of Osiris Vildjharta Yeah, they downtune guitars and use 7 or 8 strings and scream, but I'd rather listen to some instrumental mastery than the same chord over and over again. This kind of music is to get the blood boiling Here's a great Born of Osiris song, great for working out or tearing off heads of small animals/babies. <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/na3wzq6_P9M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
ah, this baby brings back some sweet memories. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/C29Nz7u6Yqc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> ^ebolarama live is the shiiiiit.
All my favorite Hard Rock or Metal bands (aside from Mastodon & Black Label Society) all seem to be from overseas now. Firewind is a pretty good power metal band from Greece. Their guitarist, Gus G, played on the most recent Ozzy Album. <iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nDO_IaixvKU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I hate it when a band is seriously musically talented, like Children of Bodom, and then their singer just ruins it by trying to sound like The Cookie Monster...
As far as hard rock/metal goes the only bands I like in the last few years that has come out it Avenge Sevenfold and Rise Against.
