the offseason between the end of the 98 playoffs and the start of the following season was quite long.

There will be plenty of Rockets chatter until a new coach is named, around the draft, and then once the CBA is hammered out and teams know what they can work with...

Our owner/leadership is the problem?! You don't remember Charlie Thomas and the Paterson family do you?

As far as this poll, shame on you Tinman. I thought you of all people would remember the off-season that followed Hakeem's suspension by the Rockets and his subsequent trade request.

    http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1992-09-05/news/9201190877_1_salary-cap-rony-seikaly-rockets

Plus I don't get what everyone is so upset about. Was Rick Adelman going to turn the pre-trade deadline Rockets into a finals contender with a free agent addition of Samuel Dalembert? Because that is what Adelman wanted. The only way I see this team as currently constructed being a championship contender is if Yao magically heals to pre-injury form...

It wasn't Adelman's fault that we weren't contenders, but Rick didn't want to mess with the roster either and therein lies the problem.

Do you keep the sure fire Hall of Famer coach and not improve a flawed roster or do you improve the roster and bring in a less talented coach(on paper anyway)?

    I think we chose correctly.

Yes. No playoffs plus no summer league plus shortened, delayed season-- or even no season at all-- will make for some very prolonged misery.

The year we lost both Tmac and Yao.
And we found out that Artest sucked...

    That was the longest off-season.

"Is this going to be the longest Rockets offseason for fans?", that is really specific dude.

Why even post the question then? Unless you are saying this will be the longest offseason for Rockets fans...

if my tinmanmeter works right, this is exactly his style of posts - he does remember that offseason, and created the poll to see who else did.
as for myself, I don't remember that offseason, unfortunately I was too young and living in a country were your options were not liking basketball or being a Bulls fan (and at that point I was still the former)

to be fair 99er, there are people who haven't experience that off season you mentioned.

You also forgot to mention the season where Les thought about moving the team and Clutch/Jeff had to rally the city to Save Our Rockets!

This is an objective topic, it's not as concrete as who is the greatest Rocket of All Time, or did Dream dominate the Bulls teams of the early 90s..

Considering all the excitement and anticipation for last years, I say no. We were on pins and needles 24/7 last summer. There's zero to be anticipating this time around.

The best case scenario is that the CBA gets resolved quickly (not likely), comes with a low hard cap (~$68M) and an Allan Houston rule, and squads like LA have to let decent names loose for sub-cap teams like us to catch on the cheap.

Dwight Howard is very much a pipedream with all reports saying he wants to superfriend up either in Orlando or elsewhere - Houston isn't a possibility for that.

Only way we have a crack at Gasol is if a new hard cap screws Memphis out of the bidding....but we'd hardly be the only suitors making a run at him.

We'll have to see....but odds are pretty good that it'll be a calendar year before we're poised to make a splash.

To the contrary, I remember them well. How could you forget two championships. Patterson was an outstanding GM. The franchise has declined under Les's leadership.

nope, i really dont expect anything exciting to happen to us this offseason. therefore I am not waiting for anything to happen, I'll be ready once the season tips. until then i'll enjoy the playoffs and hope to god the nfl lockout ends before actually football is missed.

Steve Patterson was the architect of Clutch City. Les just got lucky when he bought the team.

Dream wasn't the same nice person when he was younger. That issue was resolved by.. a new contract.
