I was surprised too. Basically they just built upon a good tried-and-true storyline and character without trying too hard to make things seem like real life. And it worked extremely well! Why mess with a bad thing right?

Definitely the coolest display of superhero powers and battles I've seen on screen. They could have the X-Men battling Sentinels using this kind of technology and I really think it'd come off pretty cool.

When I look back on the Thor plot or try to explain it to people who ask if it was could I cant help but say it was cheesy. Its not a Batman or even an Iron Man in terms of depth and standing on its own legs as a movie.

But as a superhero movie, it is done extremely well. You feel like you're in a comic. Nonstop entertainment. But definitely cheesy.

Elba was awesome as Heimdall: his voice and presence made for an imposing, awe-inspiring character, but I agree 110%. Scandinavian deities should look Scandinavian. Same with the Asian dude playing Hogun.

The movie was still pretty darn good. I give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Just saw it tonight. Had low expectations so I'm happy to say they were matched and exceeded. I'd give it a 3.5/5 easily. Didn't come in knowing any part of the backstory, missed the first 10-15 mins, but still was blown away by the graphics, the characters, and settings.

I'm late to the party but, quite frankly, the best movie I've seen in the past ten years. It was absolutely flawless. Everything was just right. The right amount of actions scenes, character build-up. The humor was funny. And the amount of manly portrayed by Chris Hemsworth was amazing. This movie was man at its most man.

    agree on all counts.

after resisting it for so long, i JUST saw this movie...holy crap. AMAZING.

loki is one of the most complicated characters I've ever watched on screen. i thought hiddleston was incredible in the avengers and it was cool getting to see the story told from the beginning. the scenes with him, thor, and odin were so powerful. the subtlety of the acting was breathtaking.

i liked this movie way, way more than i thought i would.

I would have sex with both of them at the same time.

They were like strawberry and chocolate ice cream.

I especially like the part where Kat was squeezing Natalie's arm.

Thor is my favorite Marvel superhero, and Norse mythology is my favorite mythology, so those two things = I would have seen this regardless. I keep recommending Thor to everyone who hasn't seen it. My girlfriend watched it with me a month or so ago, and she had the same reaction you did.

    Thor freakin' rules.

Yes, this was indeed my favorite superhero movie of them all as well. I resisted for a while thinking I wouldn't like it either but I was sure wrong when I rented it.

I'm surprised so many of you liked this so much, I thought it was pretty mediocre, about on par with the 2nd hulk and Iron Man 2. Not bad movies, but definitely not among the best superhero movies ever made.

Same. I enjoyed the movie fine but it wasn't amazing or anything. I did watch Avengers last night and thought that was pretty good.

I think it was the sci-fi aspect for me, the whole relms and worlds thing with some mixture of mythology. Def more of a niche movie than the others. Just gotta be a fan on that type of genre I think to appreciate Thor even more.

I think the masses consider Hulk and Iron Man 2 to be mediocre. With Thor... some people really like it, others don't. I really, really liked it. It was refreshing that it played to the comics, didn't try to make things realistic. It accepted its existence as being cheesy and the result -- it wasn't cheesy.

Well Norton's Hulk ended up with a Rottentomatoes score of 67%, and iron man 2 came in at 74%, with Thor at 77%. In comparison to Iron Man 1 at 94% and Avengers at 93% and Dark Knight at 94%. Not that I always agree with the ratings, I thought Captain America was really good and it was rated 79%, but I more or less would rate the others about where the average of the critics put them.
