How much more cap space will they have if they trade KG and allen, versus letting them expire? If it's not significant, then just go for another run, you never know, an injury to someone else can leave them with a door to the finals again....just need to get another big somewhow.
Hmmmm every contract but Pierce and Rondo expires after next season(I think), would they make a run for dHoward?
I was really wanting them to put in wafer, hes not a huge impact but he can be a game changer. this may be of no relevence but that fool was hitting threes during the pre-game warm up. The whole body language from the team was bad. i give credit to rondo for going in balls to the wal after the injury but his fake lay-up passes costed them many oppurtunities. but this is the playoffs as lusual smh
Of the big 3, only KG now has a giant contract. The other 3 main pieces are still probably fair value(allen, pierce) or a bargain (rondo). They took a flyer on Green and it didn't work out, but that's OK. I still think they're just one more piece from the top once again. There's really no reason to blow it up...no one belives that they have 0 chance to win again.
That would be the safe bet. They would have been very competitive had Rondo not dislocated his elbow.
Not really a fair statement. Boston's Big Three is legitimate, they've have been in the running to win it all ever since they were formed. They are just getting older and got bested by an up-and-coming team.
Believe it or not, Wafer was slowly buying into defense and making the rotation but an injury caused him to be out for long time. The Celtics had some of the best chemistry pre trade, smh at the trade. But I guess it sets them better for the future, as KP was likely going to demand more and Jeff Green doesn't looks so bad. Plus I don't think they would have won with KP, as they needed offense not Defense
The problem here IMHO is they kept the wrong people. The celtics should have followed the Patriots' tradition of always building for the future and kept Perkins instead of one of the big 3. Now they don't really have a choice except to ride out the big 3 until they all retire. Nobody's gonna give them equal value for KG/PP/Allen, and greene, delonte west and Rondo aren't good enough for a core.
IMHO they were all hype to begin with. KG was legit during their run, but PP and Allen turned out to be little more than sidekicks so it was a lot like Lebron+2 Boshs than Bird, Parish Mchale. Remember when they won their ring they had the big 3, Rondo and Perks, and two great role players who played like stars during their run (Pj Brown and Posey). Even in this series in which they got swept, it was 4 vs 3, sure Rondo was injured but even then KG, Pierce and Allen with half a rondo still got schooled by Lebron/Wade/Bosh.
the perkins trade was awful. he was the x-factor going back to last years finals. he was injured, and the lakers grabbed 23 offensive rebounds in game 7. his presence in the paint alone would of decreased the free throw discrepancy(106-153). ainge traded him because he wanted green to get a sub for pierce/garnett, so they could get more rest, and now they'll get plenty. krstic is off the books, maybe they could sign aaron gray, or pryzbilla...
Rebuild while these guys still have value, saying that, it took A LONG time for the Celts to get back to greatness so it may be difficult to let go.
1. Get someone that can defend Wade, people talk about the Perkins trade but losing Tony Allen hurt them more than losing Perkins, vs. Miami anyway. 2. Find a center, JO is serviceable he's all they've got. If I was Ainge I'd attempt to sign Yao. 3. Hope that Miami doesn't get any better or some injury happens. So really they should blow it up, because as is they cannot be Miami, and with Miami adding pieces this offseason they really won't be able to stay with them. But then again all it takes is an injury to Wade and they're right there in the title chase again, so why not stick it out and see what happens. The fans still support the team, the owners aren't broke, they can't tank that fast even if they wanted to.
Paul Pierce WILL retire as a Celtic, I can almost guarantee it. As for next year, it looks like they're going to go at it one more time, and blow it up in the 2012 because thats when all the guys go off the books. Ray and Doc have (kind of) confirmed they want to come back next year. Jeff Green says he does but I'm not sure if he will. KG's status is unknown, but really they should look for an instant offense (or maybe they have one in Von) or look for a defensive wing. I'd also target a young athletic center who GETS BOARDS, which is one of their biggest problems.
how in the world has Rondo still not added a jump shot, 2 seasons ago people were going nuts for him but he hasn't upped his game by much.
