Anchel, these guys have no clue about European basketball. They obviously cannot differentiate between Euroleague, ACB, second divisions, youth teams, etc. Just ignore most of the stuff here.
I'm really starting to lean toward picking PG/SG Josh Selby with our 23rd pick. Spoiler <iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OxRRCgeclUI?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The former McDonalds All American could come off the bench as a 'sparkplug', like Aaron Brooks was supposed to before he got traded. I really like the Idea of having both a pass first PG in Lowry and a score 1st PG in Selby, I think both of their games would compliment each other well. Like Aaron and Lowry did in the 09/10 season. Of course Drafting Selby and playing him full time at PG, would probably involve moving Dragic in the off-season or on Draft night. As far as the 14th pick goes, I think if we go with the 'BPA' option, we will be picking Texas Power Forward Tristan Thompson. Which isn't a bad pick, but we would be forced to move Scola in the off-Season or on draft night. Can't have 3 PF's of that caliber on the roster IMO, not enough minutes to go around. ----- So as things currently stand I would go with this guys as our picks: 14th: PF 6'9 Tristan Thompson, Texas 23rd: PG 6'3 Josh Selby, Kansas 38th: SG/SF 6'7 Scotty Hopson, Tennessee or PF/C 6'11 Jeremy Tyler, Tokyo Apache [All of these guys are based on if we go with the best player available option.]
I think Josh is someone who will move up in the draft quickly once workouts start. We'd probably have to pick him @14, if he's still there.
I thought that Evan Turner was more prepared for the NBA. Or Patterson. Even with the players that look more prepared, there exist some doubts at their rookie years. Kanter and Biyombo look more prepared, but evenly I would not count too much with them at their first years. That's why I prefer to look farther, at least to the 2nd year... If we end getting Vesely cool, he will be automatically the starting SF in our minds, but will he be able to play true efficient basketball in his first year?... OHMSS, I disagree with the way you approach all this. If you can provide some different info/knowledge to the boards, you will be welcomed by the proper members doing it the right way, you basically will receive the same treatment you give. At least since I'm here you seem to be on a crusade against all and everyone. Relax and try to moderate your comments, and you will feel more rewarded.
I am intrigued by Vesely. I have been on the bandwagon about signing Kirilenko because he is long, plays excellent defense, makes great cuts, can finish, and plays efficient offensive basketball. I see some of the same athleticism in Vesely. Vesely looks like he's even longer. However, I doubt in Vesely's rookie campaign that he could give us anything close to what Kirilenko could give us. However, if Vesely winds up here (doubtful), I think he's got an excellent chance to get substantial minutes at the 3 simply because our current starting 3 is an average shooter and very, very poor defender. I like the way the Rockets have developed their rookies the last couple seasons. They bring them along slowly but they bring them along.
I am all aboard the Vesely train. I really like that length and athleticism combination at the SF spot. Ideally, you'd want a playmaker with him.. hopefully Lowry can take his game to the next level next year.
Words of wisdom. Considering their age and the jump in compatition I would expect them to have only a part time spot in the rotation. Kanter has more skills and might actually get on the floor faster than Biyombo but we will just have to wait and see. I would take Vesely in a heartbeat and be happy, however our true need is Center and this draft gives us the oppertunity at a couple that could man the position for the next decade so that is what I am hoping for.
Yeah I hear that he killed it in the 5-on-5 Las Vegas workout.. If we trade for one of the higher picks(3-6), without giving up the 14th, I think I'd be open to drafting Josh Selby with the 14th pick.
I will say it again.......Vesely is not a Kirilenko type player. So what if nbadraft.net says so? They also said that Deshawn Stevenson (who can't score) was the next Jordan, and that Rubio (who can't shoot) was the next Nash. He looks like a bit like Dunleavy and is white so they compared him to Dunleavy. He is white and from Europe and plays SF so they compared him to Kirilenko. That is the extent of their scouting analysis at sites like that on European players. They live in the US, they are American, and they don't even watch European games. Don't equate Vesely to Kirilenko because they are different types of players. I don't see Vesely ever really being as skilled as Kirilenko is or as versatile. But Vesely is more talented physically. You keep comparing the athletic level between the two, as the same as "young Kirilenko". Sorry, but young Kirilenko did not have anywhere near the athletic ability of Vesely. Vesely is an absolute off the charts freak of nature athletically. Kirilenko is more skilled and more versatile and Vesely is much more athletic and physically gifted. Kirilenko is a natural PF that the Jazz have played out of position for years. Vesely is a natural SF. Kirilenko is a team, help defender and weak side shot blocker. Vesely is a more traditional man to man potential lock down defender at the 3. Kirilenko can run plays and do many things in a half court offense. Vesely is more a spot up shooter, or a face up player in a half court. Kirilenko is a much better passer, etc. Really, to anyone that has followed European basketball over the years, there is just not much similarity, nor comparison at all between them. They are both white. They are both from Europe. They play at the SF position. That is about it really. Vesely is much more like a guy like Gerald Wallace or Nicolas Batum than he is like Kirilenko for instance. Comparing him to Kirilenko really does not even make sense.
How in the world you could compare Vesely to Wallace and Batum is beyond me at this stage. When Vesely handles the ball, he looks like he's dribbling with a 3 iron in each mitt. His handle is horrendous. Batum and Wallace actually have a handle. I think you're just comparing how high each man can jump on the popsickle sticks. I am comparing him to Kirilenko because of his length playing the 3 spot and what I believe are similarities in their games, the fact that they are both best served playing without the basketball in their hands, without dribbling it around. They're best off catching the ball and either dunking, shooting, or passing and cutting. Personally, I think if Vesely could shoot a 40% three ball that he would be in the running for the #1 pick, because of his unique size and athletic ability and drive. Batum and Wallace a far superior shooters at this point in their respective careers. If you wanna compare him to a black SF, you may want to consider Luol Deng without the jump shot. Although, I would have to say Deng's handle is superior to Vesely's also. Or you may want to consider Tayshaun Prince. (Yeah, he is kinda light-skinned. ) Prince is long and thin and is kinda mechanical on his jumper, not a thing of beauty or efficiency. And yes, I know. Vesely is much much more athletic than Prince.
Tobias Harris: The Patrick Patterson of the 2011 draft. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/t-eGGJcxmS0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Only 18 years old.
<iframe width="560" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rNK8siaYI7M?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Kanter is no longer hiding! And he is not out of shape like speculated. http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2011/05/nba-pre-draft-tour-enes-kanter-workout/
Meh. That video didn't really show me anything -- Kanter v. Air. His athleticism didn't really leap out at me either. We'll see how he does in the group workouts, I've been wanting to see this kid play.
I liked the video. It showed that he was in good shape and that he has a nice outside shot. The only problem i have with him is the chances of us moving up that high to get him are very, very slim. He is my top choice to draft, but realistically, he is out of our range ala Cousins 2010.
Lol yeah, I agree. I just thought some people might find it interesting to know he is alive and not fat. He is not athletic or fast, but I get the impression he is fundamentally sound.
I don´t know why, but I have a feeling that if the team that drafts Kanter plays him at the center position and expects him to be a force defensively they will have a problem. I think that 20ft jumper will be wet all night long, plus his soft touch around the rim, but I think his slow feet at the defensive end will cause him alot of trouble if he is an anchor of any team defense. If I need a defensive presence at the Center position (like we desperately need), I would not trade up for Kanter, IMO (but still too early to act like this is a fact) The perfect scenario for him would be a team like the Wizards because they have that shot blocking machine, but they need someone that can have a back to the basket game at the PF position, so they can trade Blatche. But sure this kid looks like a 20 point machine right away at the next level. PeAcE
