Stats have nothing to do with size advantage, athleticism, tempo, multifaceted game play, length, speed, INTANGIBLES, two way players on offense and defense. Metrics go out the window for those things. Your stats are useless. Basketball is about matchups and physical advantages. Coupled with skills and coaching.
I disagree. Metrics can attempt to quantify anything with a number behind it. While not all of these metrics give a the full picture, I do believe it helps bring that picture into focus.
Im sure the only stats Morey uses are the ones straight from the box scores. There's no possible way he actually takes advantage of technology and game film to gather individualized defensive stats that aren't available to the public...
Agreed. We should send him an e-mail with a link to basketball-reference. Maybe it will save Les lots of money on data research and we can pay more money for free agents!
Physical attributes and determining which combinations give you an advantage in particular matchups can and are captured by metrics. I don't why you think such things can't be measured.
NO! Numbers are baaaaaaaad. EVERYTHING we need to know to understand basketball can be seen by the naked eye! Our perceptions never lie and the stats are just out there to trick us!
THIS!! Two ACTUAL big men who box out for rebounds and score well... This combination works VERY well together... I really hope the back court proves its worth so the Grizz can give us a run at Rudy Gay.. oh please oh please..
Yeah, Morey traded for Battier with no other wing players on the roster of note, or any other big, skilled players. Sure.
The phrase is "for all intents and purposes." Not trying to be a jerk. Thought you might like to know.
yeah, but have your ever wanted to use that phrase for very intensive purposes. like in a stupid argument. "If y'all don't stop saloning debately with such polite fancy ass 'intents and purposes' to be smart...I swear I'm going to kick your f!cking ass with utility belts on and all triggers set to intensive purposes."
I don't disagree. I was just referring to the people who want to completely ignore any statistical analysis like it's irrelevant. There's no doubt that stats can't even come close to giving you the whole picture when trying to construct a team or a gameplan. But I do believe they're a very useful tool and I think that teams that know how to make use of all those advanced metrics out there have a leg up on the competition.
Typical Morey hater tsk tsk. Morey has had nothing to work with; two way players don't come in second rounds.
Really ignorant post... I'm a huge Morey fan and I never said he drafted wrong. For where we get our players in the draft, they turn out very well. My point is Morey paid 5m/year to Miller and missed on players like Allen(3m/y) and Chandler
lol, please understand NBA free agency before you call someone wiser than you ignorant. Players sign up to play for contenders. Rockets are not Allen would be a terrible fit and have no place in our rotation. Bard Miller's signing was at market value.
