    from link above...

Federal Emergency Management Administration spokeswoman Rachel Racusen says the administration has been working for months to aid Texas.

“This administration, through FEMA, has been working closely with the state throughout the duration of these fires, and we are supporting the firefighting efforts,” she said. “In fact, we have already approved 25 fire management assistance grants in recent to help cover expenses for these emergency response efforts, including 19 grants in April.”

Racusen said the administration believes “at this time” that the ongoing federal assistance to Texas is sufficient.

“Based on the information the state provided to FEMA through this process, it was determined that there was not a need for additional support at this time as the federal assistance is already being provided to Texas for response activities in the form of the Fire Management Assistance Grants,” she said.

Current federal aid covers 75 percent of Texas’s costs for emergency response work, such as evacuations, equipment, field camps and meals for firefighters, police barricading and traffic control. The agency’s regional office in Denton continues to monitor the situation and work closely with Texas Forest Service and Texas Division of Emergency Management, FEMA officials say. In addition, firefighting teams from more than 30 states have provided state-to-state support for firefighting efforts in Texas.

But FEMA’s response does not satisfy the Texas Republican officials.

Considering you don't live here, you might want to think twice about being such a jerk.

People are dying here. People are homeless here.

    Get a grip on reality.

I've donated to several relief funds for TX. You?

The person who needs to get a grip on reality is the ******* who's trying to make this into some kind of political gotcha and criticize the President when he obviously doesn't have a clue about what he's talking about.

LoL is that a challenge Mr. NYC Philanthropist ? Show some receipts for the generous donations you made for "a few brush fires". While you were thinking how "Karma is a b****!", people watched first responders die and their houses burn. Do that and I will show you pictures of the trailer I used to haul horses away from the fires before they burned to death.

Never mind, do us all a favor and don't post your tax write-offs. They don't excuse your comments.

Try to keep your political jabs from trivializing actual suffering.

You really are dense aren't you?

Why don't you ask basso why he's so concerned with horses and cows in TX?

Dense about what? You are the one who said "Karma is a b****!" and described the situation as "a few brush fires".

WTF do I care about Basso?

I'll let you in on a little secret Casey, most of what I was saying was tongue in cheek. And the karma jab was at your wonderful governor. But of course all of that went right over your head (as usual). basso doesn't care about fires in TX; all he wants is to paint the president in a bad light (as usual).

    I'm out

They do need help. They shouldn't have voted for a governor who doesn't want Federal money when it comes to insuring children, educating the state's young, and denouncing Federal Aid as a bad thing.

Maybe next time they will realize that there is a need for a Federal Govt. and to have it funded.

Might wanna shoot this here comment to the OP, who started a thread to make political jabs at Obama instead of promote relief efforts in TX.

I don't think mark would be quite so defensive if this thread were the latter, rather than the former.

But that's basso for you... 8 or 9 years of this s**t... and counting.

I am not expert on what qualifies as a Major Disaster Area but the difference I see is this.

Criticizing Obama for not declaring one is fair game political debate.

Marginalizing disasters by calling them "a few brush fires", or putting blame on the victims:
    is not.

If you think basso gives a s**t about the wildfires instead of just bashing Obama, then you might have a point, but somehow (shocking I know) I doubt that's what basso was concerned with when starting this thread. Mark's comments are in poor taste, but they're literally a product of basso's petty sniping.
