Since we all know that we are getting a new coach, is there a style of coaching that each coach sticks with? Ie: ricks -read and react. jvg- half court offense. What is Franks, Mchale and Casey offensive philosphy? Do you think the new coach will be forced to run an uptempo team? or vise versa. I have a feeling that Morey wants the coach to run a particular offense even though it may not be the coaches personal preference. What offense do you think best fits with the current players on the rosters. I personally wouldn't want to lose the uptempo read and react. It is similar to the triangle but a little harder to predict. We have seen Kyle emerge as a great point guard with this style of uptempo. However, I am not sure if the offensive philosphy lead to his rise or was it more the coach. I feel Dragic fits the bill also as I consider him to be an uptempo guard. Uptempo teams are great in the regular season but come play off time it is usually a more half court game. Knowing this, who is the best coach out of the three that could balance the uptempo/transition/half court offense?
IMHO, Lawrence Frank's offense can be sized-up in 2 words. Jason Kidd. Once Kidd was traded, it wasn't long until Frank was fired.
true. it's easy to be a good offensive team when you have a PG like that. frank is a good defensive coach. he used that defense to start the fast break and jason kidd in his prime was a pretty good match for that. lowry wouldn't be too bad in that role IMO.
Regardless of the coach, I think we are going to run the same read and react offense that we ran last year. The players thrived under this offense with an Offensive Rating of 111.3 (4th of 30) and a Pace of 94.2 (8th of 30). The players know the offense. Some of them know it so well they could coach the offense themselves. A strong, defensive minded coach would probably rather spend practice time working on implementing his defense then a whole new offense. I also think the FO will fill most of the assistant coaching positions (as opposed to letting the new head coach fill out his own staff). And I think one of them will be Finch to help coach the offense.
I say we keep some of adleman's assitants and keep the same offense while frank focuses on specific plays (inbound/out of timeout/game ending) and defense
Don't know if this Helps but he was an assistant for George Karl and Nate McMillan prior to being an assistant with Rick Carlisle. He has been with some very good coaches IMO.
whenever there's a new coach there's going to be changes in the offense and defense. i really doubt we'll stick with the read and react offense. we'll still see some of it next year of course because we'll have the same players, but slowly but surely our identity is going to change in the next 2-3 years, just like it changed under rick when van gundy left.
With the departure of Rick Adelman, it appears that the only offensive scheme the Rockets have is the front office. Their actions have really been offensive.
Its interesting to think about with all three canidates. -Frank and Dwayne Casey would fit the bill as a coach that complements the players currently on the roster. I could see them still running alot of the same sets on offense, but I could see them both wanting Kyle Lowry to have the ball in his hands to create for others rather than the high post passing Center that Adelman usually used as the primary facilitator. Expect to see alot of the same screens and ball movement, but more back to the basket post-ups from guys like Patterson, Scola, and yes even Chuck. That and running more pick & role with Lowry, and Scola. These two guys will also want to push the basketball as much as possible. I do not see the uptempo style going away totally. However, with these two guys as coach the main thing that will change will be defense. There is no doubt in my mind that there will be a huge upswing on the defensive side of the court. From all the reports I have read from Dallas, Dwayne Casey ran most of the preseason training camp, and the primary focus was defensive sets, rotations, etc. -Now Kevin Mchale here is sort of the wildcard candidate to coach this team. The other two coaches have a much clearer philosophy to coaching than Mchale, mainly because of their experience coaching and records. Its hard to get a read on whether he will be a grind it out half court minded coach, or a run and gun Princeton offensive coach. If he ends up getting the job, I will be most interested in who else gets brought along to be assistants. That being said, I believe Mchale has the best leadership qualities, public persona, and fruitful relationships accross the NBA of the three coaching candidates. Even if you balk at his experience and record from his days in Minnesota, you cannot deny the positives he will carry with him to this organization.
