Each season will be based on one book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. This season is based on the first book in the series: A Game of Thrones. Seven books planed 5 books already released.

Man I cant come in here anymore; too tempted to click all the spoiler tags.

I think HBO plans on a season per book but I know George RR Martin wants to have multiple seasons for some of them. I hope the series is popular enough that he gets his way.

10 episodes is far too short and Game of Thrones isn't even the longest book so they would have to at least increase the episodes or 2 seasons for a book like Martin wants. Game of Thrones really needed 16 episodes at least I think, 10 is just way too short. I can see how people who have not read the books could lose track of character development with so much being crammed in an episode.

4th episode was probably my favorite so far. It seemed to be at a slower pace then the rest of the episodes (I guess that stems from less back story to have to explain). Finally got to see Ghost. I would be curious to know if any non-readers found the wolf's presence confusing, since they didn't really explain that he was going to the wall with Jon Snow.

Tonight's episode was the best so far. I actually had a "what the hell" reaction when they showed Snow's wolf, as they make it seem like you have to give up everything in your life to go to serve in the Night's Watch so it was surprising they let him bring his wolf. Next week's episode looks even better with the previews of quite a few action scenes

By far the best episode yet. On Ghost it did annoy me that he made a noise when he growled, the fact he is silent in the books make him so much more fearful for others and its confusing why they wouldn't keep him so in the series.

About time we saw Ghost...and he looked awesome!

The kid playing Samwell could not have been more spot on to my imagination of him while reading.

"So you didn't know where to put it" had me in stitches. Great casting.

I agree with the great casting regarding Sam. I liked the way the plot is unfolding with Ned's investigation in King's Landing. I presume that will just keep getting juicier.

The only thing I have any complaint about the episode is that there wasn't enough Tyrion in it.

Great episode. Three-Eyed-Crow was awesome; caught me by surprise.

I can't believe we're already through four (out of ten!) episodes. This week was "slow" by previous episodes' standards, but it's about to pick up real quick.

While it is pretty much spot on with his appearances in the book, I want more. The dude steals every scene he is in. I enjoyed the added confrontation between him and Theon. Gave a pretty good backstory to the Iron Islands & why he is there as a ward. Also...

a good foreshadow of his douchebaggery in season 2

Once again, Cat has given me reason to seriously dislike her. Tyrion is the one Lanisiter that that has even the smallest bit of honor (obviously created by the way he has been treated). I knew at the end of the last episode, when Tyrion said he would stop at Winterfell, that he was in for trouble.

After 5 Episodes the characters that I am always wanting to see more of are:

Jon Snow - He looks like he is going to turn into a great leader and is already looking like a great warrior.

Deanery's - She has turned from a shrinking violet into what looks like a very strong queen. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than watching her punk her brother.

Arya - Obviously she has no intention of being a lady. I love female characters that want to step out of traditional roles to become leaders. Her and Jon Snow look like the best of Ned's children. Can't wait to see her once her sword skills are honed.

Tyrion - Little guy with a big mind. Nothing worse than trying to match wits with a dwarf when he has twice the wit and makes you look like a fool (as Theon found out). I hope Cat does not have him killed. Hopefully something bad happens to Cat soon.

    Characters I can't figure out:

Little Finger - Can't figure if he is an Ally or a very clever enemy. What the hell was up with the story that he told Sansa about the Mountain and the Wolf. There was an obvious reason for it.

Jora - Why is he with the Targaryan's? He obviously has no respect for Viserys and does not think he is capable of retaking the throne. He seems like a good guy but has been exiled by Ned for some reason. Don't know the reason.

    Least favorite Character:

Catelynn - I just hate her. She is a snake that pretends to be honorable and just, but she is lying to all of us including herself. I like nothing about her at all. I especially hate the way she treated Jon. If she were even half way decent she would not hate Jon so bad and realize that he was the real victim, if in fact there was a victim.

I hate Visery's, Jamie and Cersie as well but I can stomach them since there is no pretense that they are good. They are what they appear. I hate Cat much worse then these three.

Can you blame her? She is under the impression the knife recovered from Bran's assassination attempt belongs to Tyrion.

It is also obvious that the knife in question has changed hands a few times. She knows that because it was previously Little Finger's. Isn't it reasonable to think that Tyrion gave it to Jamie or someone else? Cat is a snake pure and simple. Maybe I judged her from the way she treated Jon but she is just sorry. There is nothing Nobel about her at all. Add to the fact that Ned told her to take no action until he had all the facts to present to Robert and she is also just dumb.

If Cersie was able to get Robert to kill one of the Dire Wolves despite Neds obvious objection, what do you think she will be able to convince him to do when they find out that Cat has kidnapped Tyrion? She just put Neds life at risk along with the lives of her children in Kings Landing.

    Exactly.

And if you think she is hard to like on the show, realize that she is even less likable in the book. But you have to realize that if you thought someone tried to kill your 10 year old son, you probably would act quite irrational as well. Especially when you have such damning evidence (The Dagger).

Chuck relayed my thoughts pretty well above me. I don't know if I would be acting very rational if someone was trying to kill my 10 year old.

Her treatment of Jon on the other hand is despicable, but maybe there is more to the background story then I know? I haven't read the books.

I know she has issues with him because he is Neds b*stard son from an affair that Ned had but at some point over Neds life you would think she would have found away to deal with her issues enough to treat Jon like a human. Now if Jon was an ass then then I would have no trouble with the way she treats him but Jon has been nothing short of Nobel himself.
