I really think Sam Cassell is the best choice for head coach. It's a hard trigger to pull, with his relative lack of real coaching experience, but my gut tells me he'd do a fantastic job.
i think we all just witnessed why casey should be at the top of the list. the defense the mavs just played for 4 games against the back-to-back champs was unbelievable. he's also very well versed on the offensive end of the floor as well, working under george karl, eddie sutton, and the mavs offense isn't too shabby either.
A solid performance like that, the PLAYERS would be able to respect it. Respect of the coach still counts for something. Sweeping the defending champs HANDILY, or Lawrence Frank the worst start to a season in NBA history. The further the Mavs move in the playoffs, the higher Casey will trend up
we are definitely agreed about casey. i think youre being too hard on frank. casey has a poor record as a head coach too, but the past is the past. i'm sure frank is a different / better coach after joining the celtics staff. still, casey should be miles ahead of frank, or any other coach on the list except for maybe brian shaw.
I vote for Sam too. Sam played for Rudy, Karl, Flip, Dunleavy, and Doc Rivers. He played well with big men (KG, Dream, Brand) as well as scorers like Ray Allen. Plus a very likeable and well respected guy in the league.
i would love either sam or elie, but just for novelty sake. i think other coaches can do a better job.
Mike Woodson wouldnt be bad, he is being overlooked by Casey and Frank. John Lucas could be one of the assistant coaches.
I'm on board with Casey. I'm...curious about Cassell. My head says no, but I'm intrigued by the idea.
