He probably was. He made it no secret that he wanted Barea to get hurt. Now he's trying to rationalize Bynum's cheap shot for... some reason? Don't even know what he's driving at. Surely he wasn't expecting the Mavs to just roll over with 10 minutes left in the game... surely...?

Obviously, those two posters completely hate Dallas. Seeing what Bynum did, and backing up what they said with "Oh, that's how the NBA in the '80s/'90s did it" is completely baseless.

    This.

He didn't even give a reason as to why he disliked Barea.

No, you just have a propensity to ask credentials for any argument. I just wanted to let you know I wasn't a former NBA player just in case you would ask. And no, I've never been involved in the NBA in any professional capacity. And yes I know you didn't ask that either, but just wanted to let you know for your benefit.

Yes I'm talking out of my ass even when another member agreed my post, but alas he/she seems not involved with the NBA in any professional capacity either. So raise your fist in victory, for I have nothing for you (maybe apathy but that's about it).

So I'm guessing it's alright in your eyes then. Thanks for clearing that up.

simpler terms: if you keep smacking home runs when you're already up 10 in the 9th, somebody's gonna get hit by a pitch eventually.

burn shot clock a few times down the court. show them you know the game is over, and aren't trying to show them up. or, you can continue on your record-setting 3 point barrage, and let little 5'9" players dance around and dart into the lane for layups.

not saying i condone it, just saying i understand it.

Something about how long will PJ be satisfied with smoking peyote in Montana before he gets bored and resumes coaching.

If you want that, then learn defensive rotations or play on the perimeter. Or are the Lakers so pathetic that they can't play defense and have to resort ugly cheap shots like that? Sure, I can understand it. It's what I expect from a team like the Lakers, after all.

Wow, on a BBS with tens of thousands of members, you found one other person to agree with your post? Congrats!

By the way, you're still not talking in specifics. When you say I have a "propensity" to ask credentials for an argument, you act as though it's happened more than one time. I can think of one example, which dealt with scouting NFL draft picks - something that most of us have admittedly done for maybe two minutes per player.

In this case, we're talking about precedent in NBA games - something that most of us have thousands of games of experience with. Yeah, it might be a little different than scouting a draft pick, and I think you know that. You're just looking for any opportunity to take a cheap shot at me, because you know you have no actual substance to your argument.

    Sounds about right.

PJ hedging some on retiring, but only a little bit. Sounds like he's a goner.

I'm sure you're intelligent enough to understand the fundamental differences between scoring in baseball and scoring in basketball. If so, you will understand why this analogy is not apt one bit.

Basketball is a high velocity game with high scoring, and the Lakers are known for their potent offense; no team will start burning the shot clock with 9 minutes to go. Is it the Mavs' fault that they showed up to play and the Lakers didn't?

Sorry, 10 minutes left in the game doesn't equate to the ninth inning in baseball. To imply that a team should have to commit multiple shot clock violations at the beginning of a fourth quarter and declare the game over is one of the silliest things I've ever heard.

I'm really trying to figure out what would be acceptable, by your book. Apparently no threes, and no driving to the basket. Are 18 footers OK? Or do you really think they should have just taken a 24-sec violation every single possession for the entire fourth quarter?

    Cardpire:

How about, if the opponent keeps hitting home runs, pitch better, or find a pitcher that stops embarrassing your team.

Instead of a ridiculous bone-head move by Bynum, how about go up for the clean block? Or maybe foul hard by wrapping your arms around Barea, and not letting him go up for the lay-up?

There are MUCH easier ways of retaliating; you don't always have to be a dick and kill a guy who is much smaller than you. You would end up looking like a bigger punk / douche than you already do.

This is something that I'm really sick of seeing on this BBS. Guy posts an argument for his strong opinion on a matter, someone responds with a well-written retort, guy says "lol I don't care ur wrong" or goes off on some irrelevant garbage, maybe about how another poster agrees with his point but never addressing the actual argument.

Jesus christ people, back up your arguments or don't make them in the first place.

In fact, if the game is truly out of reach, get yourself fouled out intentionally, and then completely b**** at the refs until you are thrown out of the game? That lets off anger, instead of perhaps being suspended for a looooong time.

Phil Jackson's championships are tainted and should have an asterisk by them on his coaching resume. He had arguably two of the best players to ever play the game and probably wouldn't have been able to coach any other team to the championship with out those players. So his championships are tainted. If he thinks the Rocket's championships are tainted so are his.

Yeah, I call it poking fun at you, you call it cheap shot. About the same, you seem kind of sensitive to any kind of sarcastic humor (when you're not the one giving it). For the record, I've got nothing personal against you, I just sorta knew you'd come in with "I need viable proof with direct links from legit sources along with their credentials" speech.
