What should Dallas have done? Just answer that. I suppose take 24 second violations the entire fourth quarter? I'm not sure how shooting wide open looks in the final seconds of a shot clock constitutes "pouring it on". Please explain. Apparently neither threes or attempting to go to the rim are acceptable - how about 18 footers? Or is even that too much? Just provide some guidance for the rest of us.

You two do understand this isn't old school NBA? That doing this kind of crap gets you suspended / fined a ton of money / both?

And I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to understand, but I'm glad you have a friend on your side, cardpire. You can go on the ignore list along with the other guy.

Mavs bench scored 86 points. Simply unreal.

How should I know? I'm not an NBA player that has ever been in a situation like that, which seems like a prerequisite for every discussion you partake in. All I'm saying is that 2 of the Lakers did that, and it happened a lot in old school NBA, so there is precedence. So don't act like this is unchartered territory.

    edit: nm

The Mavs bench would've taken the Lakers to OT.:grin:

Because the NBA is so soft these days it is unchartered territory.

Can you talk in actual specifics? For starters, what are these other discussions in which I said you needed to be an NBA player to understand?

Second, if it happened "a lot" in old school NBA, surely you have some actual examples, correct? Now yes, I am aware that there were more physical altercations in prior decades. But that's not what you're arguing. You're arguing that the Mavs were at least partly responsible for what happened to them based on things within their control. I'd love to see the precedent for a Bynum-esque cheap shot based on teams having the nerve to "shoot threes" or "try for layups" with 10 minutes remaining.

Surely you have some examples and weren't just talking out your ass, right?

I don't know if that's "old school" and I don't care. Expecting your opponent to let up just because you can't take losing like a man is a sissy mentality. Real man don't want no pity by the opponent.

Yeah, that was a malicious, evil, callous, low-down and dirty type play. He needs to be suspended for a year. But, it probably won't happen b/c of all the Laker-love the NBA brass has for those clowns.

What good is "precedence" if there is the precedence of that type of play being outlawed to offset it? That's like being happy about two people settling their problems with a duel, because that's "old school American law" and the "precedence" exists. There are rules against it now, and that's not how things are settled. End of story.

    This.

Wanting to hurt other people when you've already lost the freakin' game doesn't help the fact that YOU LOST.

Should have closed the poll earlier. Many people (including me) just voted for "Dallas in 4" ;).

For the record, I completely agree with this. It wouldn't ever be excusable to do what Bynum did, regardless of what Dallas did. That said, to even insinuate that what Dallas did was unsportsmanlike in any way amuses me to no end. They passed the ball around and shot threes in the final seconds of the shot clock! Moreover, the Bynum foul happened with nine minutes left in the freakin' game!

I'm just beyond dumbfounded as to how anyone could interpret what Dallas did as showboating or the like.

Do you guys see the Mavs coasting to the Finals though?

Sure, they buried the Lakers, but Gasol was bad the entire series, and the Lakers just didn't show up to defend themselves this game.

Basically, I think the Mavs are too hyped right now; that regardless of which team comes out on the other side (OKC or MEM), it'll be decided in at least 6.
