http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/commentary/news/story?id=6477839 What ya'll think about Westbrook wanting to be the "man" alot of the times when he should probably dish it out to Durant more... Do you think this will become a bigger problem if OKC loses this series or even the conference finals? With NO knowing their going to lose CP3 I'm curious if they would take a trade involving Westbrook, probably the best player they could get and CP3 would be stupid to leave a team with Durant they would be the deadliest combo ever and that's exactly the PG a player like Durant could use. Also Westbrook would instantly get to be the man in NO and since he's young they can start trying to build around him. What do you guys think?
Media/people are jumping the shark. He was 7th in the league in assists per game on a team with limited offensive threats. (Durant/Westbrook/Harden)
OK, this is getting ridiculous. WB averaged 22 points and 8 assists during the regular season (he has 8 in the first half tonight). He is a great partner for KD. I can't tell you how many times during the season he was able to punish defenses that keyed on KD. The over-analysis of his performance since game 4 against Denver is way over-the-top. I'll be the first to admit he's been off since game 4, but give the guy a chance. He's still growing and improving and we don't know yet what his ceiling is. There were plenty of times during the regular season where WB dominated portions of games dishing the ball and finding the open man. He just needs to find the right balance between scoring and passing. It will come. Just like KD, WB is a work in progress. What makes OKC's success remarkable is their two best players are so young and still developing their abilities and figuring out their limitations.
Westbrook is the big reason OKC took Memphis 6 last year. Westbrook is a young guy still learning the PG position. I don't think he was the primary pg at UCLA due to Darren Collison.
westbrook is a borderline superstar right now, and will become one next year. it doesn't matter where he plays
There's nothing to report here in this series so as a reporter you have to use your imagination or find a find a small story and stretch as far as you can Nothing here move along people
Russell Westbrook is Stephon Marbury with a better attitude. Great scoring pg with good assist numbers but you don't really feel like he is a distributor.
And that'd be awesome on any team if you didn't have the best scorer in the NBA next to you ha. I just think a pass first PG is what Durant needs.
1) he's in the same mold as drose. would drose be averaging those stats if he shared the spotlight with another star? we've seen westbrook's numbers this year with durant sitting out a few games. these guys are shoot-first PGs. when they're on, they're great. when they're not, their defense/team has to bail them out. but they're great regardless. stephon marbury, please.
He's not Drose. DRose shoots as much as he does because he is the best scoring option on his team. Over their careers DRose has been a much higher percentage shooter. Go look at Westbrook and Marbury's stats and you will see a similar percentage shooter with a similar assist rate. People have a negative view on Marbury but he was a good player for a long time.
westbrook is on the path to superstardom. rose has had a faster start to that track b/c he was the #1 pick and he was groomed to be a franchise player. westbrook wasn't as no one expected (including me) to be this good coming out of UCLA. this guy is a better rebounder and defender than rose. rose right now is a better scorer and playmaker. but if you give westbrook the offensive freedom that rose has on the bulls, his numbers would parallel rose with better all-around numbers. the numbers he put up without durant this year were monstrous. in 4 games w/o durant this year: he put up 27ppg, 6 boards, 5 dimes and they went 3-1 in those games. by next year, this guy will challenge rose for the 2nd best PG in the L (although no one will pass chris paul if he's healthy)
was thinking i little ridiculously, but if westbrook really wants to be the man and Blake wants to go home and leave the clips, what about exchanging the two?
