I was pleasantly surprised with how the Texans drafted this year. The only wtf moment was picking TJ Yates, but its a crapshoot that late in the draft anyway. Here's to hoping the will make a run at Nadami.
I wouldve went with quinn in the first round and gotten stephen pea along with taking a risk on bowers
I would leave things as they are for the most part. Initially, I really wanted Quinn, but that was assuming that Mario would play DE primarily. Now that they are saying Williams will line up almost exclusively as the weakside OLB. So because of that, I'm ok with the Watt pick, but not so much on the Brooks Reed Pick. Don't get me wrong, I think Reed is a fantastic pass rush weapon for OLB. Assuming that Barwin starts opposite of Williams though, isn't another OLB just drafting for depth? Seems we have a few too many needs in that case. The best player available argument is valid, but the best safety in the draft was still available as well. A guy who is a ball hawk when playing the center of the field, can be moved to CB for certain packages on top of that. He would have started for us opening day at FS, would likely grab a few INT's through the year, and would most definitely help the CB's in coverage. We haven't had a safety that could cover a book in years. Round 1, 11th Pick: JJ Watt - Much needed run stopping for the front 7. Will push the pocket in passing situation, throw his hands up to deflect passes. Probably block a couple kicks as well Round 2, 10th Pick: Rahim Moore Round 2, 28th Pick: Brandon Harris. The value here is just too high to pass up. Round 4, 30th Pick: Jeremy Kerley WR - Surprised the Texans didn't draft a single WR, but I think it is one of the only needs we have on offense. He's short, but strong in the open field, great hands, and a flat out gamer. Round 5, 13th Pick: Shiloh Keo - I like this pick when it goes with the Moore pick in round 2. Moore's cover skills would free up Keo to stay in the box as often as possible. Round 5, 21st Pick: TJ Yates - I like the idea of starting to groom a young QB for 3-4 years. If everything goes according to plan and Shaub stays healthy, we could have out heir at QB ready at just the right time. Hopefully this allows us to save some money by cutting Dan O.
so you want to see multiple fumbles at punt return and seeing another rookie CB getting burned on coverage?
IIRC, Curtis Brown and Aaron Williams (muffed a punt in the 4th quarter of the RRS) were the primary returners. Chykie was definitely the weakest in coverage, but his measurements were off the charts, ran a 4.35 40 and posted a 39" vert at the UT pro day. I wouldn't mind taking a chance in the 5th round on a freak of nature that hails from the 40 Acres. I'd rather roll with Chykie than a physically challenged safety from Idaho that also struggled in pass coverage, but did so against MUCH weaker competition. Had someone mentioned drafting Chykie Brown 4-5 months ago, I would have laughed, but those memories of him getting worked by 5'9'' WRs on Baylor and Iowa State are long gone. You're probably right, he's not worth the time, but I'm just biased toward the Horns and seeing us add to the legacy of "DB U."
Dude, Chykie is horrible. He reminds me of that old Texans DB Demarcus Faggins. Like you said, he is prone to biting on fakes, and easily gets lost in coverage. I don't think the 4.35 at pro day is accurate either. He has the frame ans size to play corner, but certainly doensn't have anything between the ears.
Very true, but would you rather have Chykie or Shiloh Keo -- an undersized safety that posted a sub 4.7 40, described by ESPN as "not explosive" and prone to getting " caught out of position." Keo also suffered a severe shoulder injury a few years ago, and was charged with aggravated battery while at Idaho. I'm clearly biased, but I'd rather have the physical specimen that's competed in one of the nation's toughest conferences for the past 4 years. ESPN considers Brown's ball skills an "area of strength," and praised his hips and "top-end speed." His run support is pathetic, and we've seen him torched on numerous occasions, but his room for growth is very high, whereas Keo's physically limited and has essentially maxed out his potential. In that spot, I go with Chykie, just my 2 cents.
we're praising dudes' hips now? I mean, I've been motivated to praise some hips in my day, but never really a DB's hips.
