I'm going to step in and say that if you believe this then you don't know half of it. They wanted to extend rick a year ago, but rick wanted to play it out and see what happens. Honestly, as I said 3 or 4 years ago, this has been brewing.Rick doesnt like morey's management style. When you think of portland and sacramento, two places rick had alot of success, think about Petrie and the other gm. 2 guys who found talent without being out in front and talking about everything. Sacramento made trades, but they werent talked about in every player in the league.

Bottomline is,Adelmanhas way more cred than morey accross the league. Everyone in the league know adelman is a top 5 coach who is capable of taking a team to the championship. He has faults, but despite that, wins games under all circumstances. Can we say morey can asssemble a championship roster?

The rockets have benefitted from great coaching since jvg to rick. The coaching outperfomed the talent on both occassions. I dont have a problem with the rockets moving on if they choose and adelman stood up for his staff and walked away like a man. If he wants to coach again, there will be teams wanting to hire adelman. One day the rockets will get it straight, just not right now.

The Ariza-Lee trade was a player upgrade that came with great cost savings.

I Second that opinion. His assisitant Tom Thibadeaux, on the other hand, was where the great coaching and great defense was coming from. Hind sight being 20/20, picking up TT in place of Van Dummy would have been a great move. Those JVG lovers who think he would bring back defense are wrong. The defense left with Tom and is currently on the Bulls. All Gumby would bring with him is old Knicks and and a parade of youngsters being traded for players who might have a year or two left in the tank before the retirement home. Look at the Rocket roster he left. I think we may still be paying for Charles Oakley or have him in a cap hold.

How can Adelman be seen as someone capable of taking a team to the championship when he hasn't won a championship yet but DM can't be seen as someone who can't assemble a championship team?

The team were 5 games under 0.500 before DM made his trade deadline trades that actually made the team worse in talent-wise. Not sure why that meant Adelman was squeezing every single drop of talent he could from the roster  I always thought it meant he was dragging the team down by playing favorites with Aaron Brooks. Oh yeah, that's exactly what happened.

From what they say on the interviews, Morey has a philosopy of not telling coaches what to do. He implies it, but he doesn't meddle with the coach and whom they play on the Roster.

But I think Morey saw that like a lot here on the "Clutchfans", Adelman had a "man-crush" on Shane Battier, essentially hindering Budinger and Lee's progress. The combination of Budinger and Lee really were the thing that made the Rockets more competitive for the stretch run (more offense and defense). Though by that time, the MOUNTAIN was way to big to climb - and now we see that Memphis was on a mission and wasn't going to be caught.

Morey sees the big picture. Adelman deal more with human relations.

And after all is said and done, Morey might be justified. You can't be loyal to these players, because the players aren't loyal either, they have agents and they leave it all to the agents - it's a cold cold business. Sometimes, some players will be loyal but typically it is because it's more expensive to leave even with more money than to stick around.

This is Millionaires vs. Billionaires. And Morey and Les know all too well that. The sooner that players and "we fans" figure that out, the easier it will be to get back to a championship team. Unless there is a super star on the team - like Hakeem, there should be not walking on egg shells for the FO....

I am glad the GM and Owner are on the same page...

I think Adelman had a man-crush on Brooks and kept running him out there when it was obvious that he wasn't working on this team. I also think that if we hadn't made the trade to move Battier we would have probably made the playoffs, simply because Brooks was gone and replaced by a much more productive player in Dragic. Battier would have still been getting Budinger's minutes, which I think he would have been much better defensively, Memphis would have been a little worse and we would have snuck in over Memphis. But, in the bigger picture, the Spurs would have blown us up in 5 games or so. So, in conclusion, we could've been a little better and we likely could've made the 8th seed with Battier, but we would have subsequently lost him for nothing this offseason. The trades gives us much more trade flexibility going forward and the opportunity to take a bigger jump upward to become a top 4 team in the West competing for a C.

Unfortunately, I don't believe him at all that we're already down to two candidates. I'm prepared to be utterly surprised this weekend if he's somehow right.

This is the classic chicken-and-egg circular reasoning. If you don't give the coach long term confidence, why do you expect him to think long term for the team?

I find it totally baffling that anyone would think a coach like Adelman would want something short of winning a championship. The so-called win-big vs win-now is just a bunch of hot air. It implies that Adelman doesn't want to win-big, which makes zero sense.

The fact that he eagerly wanted to comeback means that he had faith in the team to win big, maybe not immediately, but in the foreseeable future. If one of the winning-est coaches has faith in a team, you sit down with him and work out the details. In fact, according to reports so far, Adelman and Morey had come to some agreements. What pissed the coach off was the ridiculous "mentor a successor" thing.

I still give Morey the benefit of the doubt that he is being a good sheep covering for his boss. The scoop about Alexander wanting to fire Adelman in mid season together with all these leaked stuff, it's pretty obvious it's not about the so-called philosophy but about the owner not liking the coach.

Especially when the successor was not one of RA's assistants but rather someone from outside. That's why Turner declined an interview and why Skima is not a serious candidate, IMHO. I imagine that when those two names were thrown out there as candidates after RA left, it was merely for show. Turner knew this and essentially gave the front office the middle finger.

I think the man has credibility when he's taken two teams in Portland to the Finals and should have had one Sacramento team in the Finals. Adelman might not have won it all but the man can coach and can take " a team to the championship"

As far as Morey, I don't think he has anything close to NBA Finals under his belt.

You don't get a team to a winning record with ZERO legit All-Stars and a 6'6" starting center and not be considered a great coach.

Because that is the coach's job. There is no obligation on the Rockets' part. They honored his contract and that is all there is to it. By the end, and during the course of his tenure here the Rockets evaluated his performance, and when the contract is completed they have the option of moving on or trying to bring him back. They are not obligated to give him an extension. The fact that he did not get an extension is NO excuse for not thinking of the team's best interests first and foremost- the duty of a head coach still on the payroll.

When it is the exact same circumstance and a player pouts or underperforms from a lack of an extension, people have zero problem with sticking by the organization and criticizing said player. I think we even had one of those ourselves this year. Why is it that Adelman, another Rocket employee, is not held to the same standard?

It is not baffling at all. You are correct that Adelman wants to win a championship. Of course. The whole entire point is that the Rockets disagree with him on the method and path in doing so. Which is why he was let go. When people say we are trying to win-big instead of win-now, they are speaking from the organizations point of view. Or from their own point of view that going the Adelman route of stability and adding a center will only win-now, not big. Maybe you disagree and believe Adelman is correct. That is fine. The organization clearly does not, which they are allowed to do, and makes their reasoning behind letting him go perfectly sound.

I'm not sure I 100% grasp your point. Are you saying that it was Adelman's decision to leave, due to his dislike of Morey's style? Not because the organization didn't want him back?

If people are using this to suggest he isn't flexible as a coach I think they're very wrong. Like P. Jackson he doesn't usually say anything on courtside but this season he changed his coaching to suit the players by being very vocal like a regular coach on the sidelines.

I was happy about the Dragic acquisition but he was't that great until the last three games. I'd say he was slightly disappointing in that the only thing he could do was hit 3's before those remaining games.

The removal of Brooks was the key here, not Dragic. Brooks had negative win value for us this season. He was terrible all season, injured, not injured, injured again. We were actually better off with him injured. Removing him from the roster eliminated him from being on the court, and it coincided with our best winning percentages of the season.

He barely played. Only time he got more than 7 minutes was blowout garbage time games and the New Orleans game where Lowry stunk it up. But what do you know, forced into starting position: double double…double double…triple double!! Season was ripped away from me too quickly. :(

You all will like him next season, I am sure. He brings nice new elements to the team like defense, slashing, and being a good team player unlike Brooks.
