For fans of the Lord of the Rings, the trilogy's extended editions are finally available on Blu Ray June 28th (previously it was just the theatrical ones).

And, for those of y'all who never saw the movies in theaters or only saw the theatrical versions, the extended editions are being shown in cinemas around America. Star Wars came out just before I was born, so LOTR is this generation's must-see-in-theaters-movie, and I urge anyone to go see the extended versions this summer.

The original version is long enough for me... I remember watching Return of the King and needing to pee really bad for the last hour of the movie.

Yes. And it's not "a few scenes."

I loved the theatrical versions, but the extended editions are masterpieces.

The LOTR trilogy is one of the few, if any movies I've ever seen where the extended cuts were actually better than the theatrical cuts.

There are actually "added" scenes in the extended versions that probably could have replaced some scenes in the theater cuts and the movies might have been better.

The backstory scenes with Boromir and Faramir taking Osgiliath, to show their relationship, and their relationship with their father are some great scenes and really could have helped out the theater cuts of the movies.

I think that the extended versions add up for about 2 hours of extra footage. That's basically an additional movie.

I hate that they still spread each movie over two discs. Come on man!

I have all the extended versions on DVD, and will be UPGRADING to Blue Ray disks baby !!

Gonna take my boys to go see them in the theater though, the extended versions tell so much more of the story.

This is a good move on their part, getting people pumped for next year's episode 1 of the Hobit.
