Now, jersey aside, what is it about the logo specifically that so many Rockets fans consider to be so unattractive? Perhaps I'm operating from a completely nostalgic perspective here, but I always loved this logo. Granted, my favorite is hands down the championship era one, but I think this one catches a lot of unfair flak. It has a retro 90's style that I think is really cheesy but attractive at the same time. Is it the Rocket with teeth? Is it the steely font? What is it? I always thought the idea of a Rocket orbiting a basketball and creating its seams was kind of cool, and I never thought the Rocket looked that stupid. Cartoonish and a bit sophomoric, perhaps, but I didn't consider it to be especially displeasing. So what is it about the logo? I will say that it doesn't have the classic power that the CS era Rockets logo had, or the Lakers logo or the Knicks logo. Those are classic logos with staying power, and it's obvious we never should've strayed from our classic. This cap, for example, looks really awesome IMO: As an aside, what are some of your most hated logos across the NBA?
Flying dildo. I hate the color, I hate the font and I hate the flying dildo. It's just not a good looking logo.
I remember that logo being my favorite thing about Rockets pre-game shows. Good (and yet not so good) times, lol.
I think people want a logo to be clean, stylish, and maybe a little intimidating. Whereas this logo looks blocky, cluttered, and frankly... childish. I don't know what they were thinking.
I love the colors. It takes me right back to the 90's. It has that feel to it. And never in my years have I ever thought the Rocket looked like a dildo. It seems absurd to see something like that and think "dildo". And @DarkHorse, what are some "intimidating logos" around the NBA? Perhaps it seems cluttered because of it's lack of symmetry, and it probably seems blocky because of the font. The fact that I don't mind its lack of symmetry and its font probably has something to do with my liking it.
It seems like a caricature of something that should otherwise be something menacing... intimidating... etc. I never thought of it as a flying dildo... but like a kids' toy or something...
When I was a kid, I always thought the rocket looked like a shark. Thank you for investing your time to read about a random fact in my life.
In aesthetic terms, I don't really have an issue with that logo - but it reminds me of watching Steve Francis dribble the ball off his foot by the 3 point line with 10 seconds to go in a game we're losing by 2 points. I don't like that jersey because it reminds me of losing. And, by that same notion, we REALLY need to abandon the pointy Dracula garbage on our current jerseys and go back to the old ketchup-and-mustard style with the old school basketball logo.
I thought so too! When the logo first came out I loved it though (I was 11 then), but as time grew it really just looked horrible. Steve Francis made it look nice, I'd have to say.
I was a kid then and I also thought it looked like a shark. Later I came to associate it with cartoons of spectacular failure, like Wil. E Coyote and his daily gimmicks to take him to the next level.
I hated the stripes. Everything else I could have lived with.........but those god awful STRIPES!!! AAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!
1. There is too much going on. Looks like the designers weren't sure if the focal point they wanted was to be either the flying dildo or the "R". 2. Colors are way too contrasted. 3. Once again the flying dildo itself...
Pretty much every NBA team aside from teams like Celtics, Knicks, Lakers had goofy logos in the mid 90s. I thought the Cavs logo wasn't bad, but the uniforms were diarrhea:
Its one of the worst logos in the history of sports. I believe those uniforms were the worst ever. That flying dildo had no style, no creativity, and it doesn't even look much like a rocket ship. More like a flying dildo/shark. epic epic fail
