Thats what I think but here you'll always find his savior who'll says that "it's not his fault" or "what was he supposed to do" damn, I know that I'm not a baseball genius but whats going on with Mills? N. Figueroa was available, someone can explain me his move with lyon? He know whats going to happen but he doesnt even had nobody warning in the bullpen at the moment..
this team will parlay that into predictably getting demolished tomorrow, and probably for the rest of the road trip. i'll give us 1 win in the next 4 max. sickening just like opening day. i'll repeat what i said a week or so ago. larussa demoted franklin after 2 blown saves, barely a week into the season. the cards are 1st in the division. the astros have nearly the worst record in the league, and mills has let lyon blow 5, and suck every outing, without demotion. that doesn't add up. lyon should be cut after today.
Brad Mills' use of Melancon is just baffling. Why waste him for one batter instead of allowing Abad to finish the 7th?
I thought I had seen some god awful closers in my day but "Lights on" Lyon might be the worst. What is the all-time record for blown saves in a season? If Mills continues to be a moron and trot him out there I say Lyon is a lock to break it...by June.
"lyon should be cut after today" really, he should have been pulled from the game after the first RBI single (if not after the freaking FOUR-PITCH WALK to the leadoff guy).
It's a 5-way tie at 14. Bruce Sutter ('78), Rollie Fingers ('76), Bob Stanley ('83), Jerry Staley ('60), and Ron Davis ('84) share this "honor."
Well unfortunately I saw the score on the yahoo page, and immediately knew what happened. Add me on the side of Lyon should not be pitching in the 9th ever again.
Love General Mills but one thing that bugs me about him is his devotion to veterans. Mills should have had a short leash on Lyon, especially after the 4 pitch walk to lead off the inning. His use of MM was also odd, using him for one batter just didn't make sense. Switch MM and Lyons and that bullpen will be soooooooooo much better. Rodriguez pitched very well today, hopefully he can round out the rotation and give the club some time for Lyles.
He hasn't. He had a strikeout in one of the games where he blew the save but we came back and won, but it came in the 10th inning after he had blown it in the 9th. Lyons' ERA in non-save situations: 1.80 Lyons' ERA in save situations: 11.37 He just doesn't have it in him to be a closer.
dude did decently enough, iirc, closing out games in 2010. but this is 2011. a 2.12 whip for a "closer" is just stupid. *almost* as stupid as continually running his tired ass out there to give games away.
Seriously. Every single time he's pitched in a non-save situation, he's gotten exactly one strikeout. But he can't strike anybody out when the game is on the line.
i think we will see this team teeter on the brink of being considered "good" all season long...only to stumble each time for whatever reason. i wouldn't invest too much emotion in this team over wins and losses. you could have a heart attack before the end of the season.
having a 4-game winning streak and some momentum and mojo finally headed our way ripped out from under us because of mills and lyon in the 9th inning is fair game to be sickened by.
Mills said he wouldn't make a decision on Lyon right now, heat of the moment, but rather tomorrow morning but didn't give any vote of confidence. For a young team, these types of losses are killers and we've had to many already. Veteran squads can just shake it off and move on but kids tend to remember and losses tend to snowball. Just can't afford to keep sending a guy out there who is costing you wins.
Then why watch? Being emotionally invested is part of the joy of watching "your" team. As crappy as this game turned out, the comeback victory on Saturday was equally sweet.
I'd say so, i'm sure he'd make the move now but wants to think logically. Tomorrow morning we should have a new closer or at the very least a VERY short leash for Lyons.
