Before any of you guys get sucked into the newyorker-tallanvor-uolj tag team HUMAN CENTIPEDE/multiple login freakshow (though I fear I'm too late) - it's fun to be reminded of one of basso's more embarrassing time travel arguments (waterboarding in March 2003 helped prevent the attack on LA . . . that was broken up in 2002).

Kyle Reese was sent back in time to stop the terrorists. And he did!

Or you could just answer the question, since it's only trying to clarify what you said versus what you mean. Seems pretty fair to me. If you think it is off topic, perhaps you shouldn't hijack a thread with it.

    I think that's appropriate, personally.

Good thing it wasn't in China. See if we were in China, then we'd have to make this bunk. But since it was here, he's making this bunk.

I have no problem with not releasing the photo/video, but they should of had a PR plan for handling OBL's death. They seem pretty inconsistent.

He also covered up Obama's Kenyan birth with that photochopped long form.

Of course, one man's time traveling freedom fighter is another's extreme radical terrorist.

Yeah, I guess it's the right call but I do find myself attracted to macabre form time to time.

I just read the Time article and agree that it is somewhat self-serving of Jose Rodriguez to argue that enhanced interrogation techniques (EIT) were key. Not to forget Dick Cheney and John Yoo also.

From the article though the White House counters his claims and even he admits that intel from many other sources contributed to locating OBL.
[rquoter]Rodriguez’s assertion drew criticism from the White House. “There is no way that information obtained by [EITs] was the decisive intelligence that led us directly to bin Laden,” says National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor. “It took years of collection and analysis from many different sources to develop the case that enabled us to identify this compound and reach a judgment that bin Laden was likely to be living there.”
    [/rquoter]

Further from the article while Rodriguez attributes the intel gathering to EIT by his own account that isn't fully clear.
[rquoter]While reports suggest that the information KSM provided on the courier came weeks or months after he was subjected to EITs, Rodriguez says al-Libbi’s tips came just one week after he was subjected to the harsh treatment.[/rquoter]

In both the case of KSM and al-Libbi (who Rodriguez says gave a key piece of info) they didn't offer up the key intel during EIT when you would think they would be spilling their guts (pun intended.) but not until some point afterwords. Now while the threat of going under EIT might have played a role that is not clear at all. Its just as likely that using classical interrogation techniques of gaining their trust worked where torture didn't.

Finally regarding EIT Rodriquez notes that its not about torture.
[rquoter]One former senior intelligence official says that “once KSM decided resistance was unwise, he started spilling his guts to the agency and started providing lots of info, like the noms de guerre of couriers and explaining how al-Qaeda worked.” Rodriguez says, ”It’s a mistake to say this was about inflicting pain. These measures were about instilling a sense of hopelessness, and that led them to compliance.” None of the Bush officials made a clear distinction between inducing compliance and torture.[/rquoter]

Regarding the range of what would be considered "enhanced interrogation techniques" I think we can find wide acceptance regarding things like holding people in solitary and depriving them of outside sources of information versus waterboarding or the techniques we would see on 24.

Here is the link to the Time article again. http://swampland.time.com/2011/05/04/did-torture-get-the-us-osama-bin-laden/

I have a feeling Trump is going to have a problem with any decision Obama makes, at least during the election.

It's now several days later, and Barack Obama is still the President of the United States of America who under his sole authority as Commander in Chief ordered the successful military strike that killed Osama bin Laden.

    Thanks President Obama.

flying planes into the WTC and pentagon killing thousands of innocent people including children is as close to spiking the football as you can get.

Are they going to pretend that we killed bin laden with pillows?

SHOW US THE PHOTO OR YOU AINT GONNA GET NO VOTO
