So what? At age 30, Dikembe was still a freshman in Georgetown. Dalembert's got plenty left in his tank.

I think Mike Woodson is likely one of the two (if Dick Justice is even partially right).

im surprised no one brought up the part about a player JVG didnt want, Les loved him because he put up numbers...JVG finally said he didnt want him, he's a loser, only about numbers, don't trust him.

Nuno guessed sura, but im not sure if that was an inside joke or not.

Has this been mentioned in the past and i just dont remember?

Wow -- I never realized he averaged so few MPG. I think Dalembert is certainly the most realistic target, but I'm not convinced we'll be able to land him. The NY hype machine has already started up with regard to him: http://tinyurl.com/3costqw. And let's be honest -- NY has a brighter future (Stat & Melo) and bigger stage, so it's going to be an uphill battle to convince him to come here.

I was trying to think of this too. It couldn't be Sura.. I thought JVG loved him? Mike James maybe? I'm not in Houston, so those who listen to 1560 regularly should have better guesses.

hopefully if we sign him it will not be long term. Just a short term solution until we can get someone better

My guess is Bonzi Wells. JVG didn't want his bouncey fat ass. Les specifically said at Adelman's introductory press conferene that "We love Bonzi!"

Was Bonzi ever on the radio? I thought Justice alluded to the player being on 1560 often.

At age 30, Greg Oden was in middle school.

Where are you on the road?

Interstate 70, little East of Denver. Headed for Amarillo.

Look at that. Dad of the year.

Kind of sad to see her say goodbye.

She will be missed there. Had good year conf wise.

    Yes.

The Rockets...big story came out yesterday. Rockets wanted Adelman to have successor on his staff. What do you think about that and a big of deal we're making it out to be?

Up to speed here. They're down to 2 guys I think. Heres what happened: Les did not want Rick to coach this team. Daryl did not want him to coach this basketball team. Many reasons we can argue back and forth but they feel there is much more work to be done with the roster. Difference of opinion: Rick wanted to stop the shuffling of the roster, add a center and felt he could go on to the playoffs. They wanted a coach who is flexible with what the organization is doing. Rick and Daryl go into this meeting and I dont want to speak for Daryl but I think Daryl was stunned that Rick wanted to continue to coach the roster. He wanted it badly. Now they're thinking: How can we make this work? They didnt really want the guy. They came up with, not sure it was the right thing to do, among the candidates, there are 4 serious candidates but 2 have seperated themselves. At that time, some candidates had very little coaching experience so they thought working as Rick's right hand would be great experience because Rick turns a lot of things over to his assistants. Unworkable part to me was, and I told Daryl this, would be that Rick is very loyal to his coaches. All 3 of them want to be HC's. In my mind, Turner is ready but Rockets didnt want Turner. Thats where the convo broke down. THey ask him, would you consider bringing a coach in and mentoring him because he needs it. In my discussion with the Rockets, I said you look kinda bad doing this. If you had Morey on, he would say, I made fun of him for interviewing 50 guys. Agents had floated names that were never candidates but the Rockets elected to keep their mouth shut and have only said all that matters is getting the right guy. Morey has been criticized for being thorough, looking at as many candidates trying to find the best fit, doing something we thought would make the Rockets better. If it came up, he has taken a lot of bullets right now, I told him, in the age we live in, if you start 4-1 next year, all will be forgotten and if you start 1-4, youre an idiot and ruined a great franchise and have to be fired. Criticism of him and roster shuffling and all, he inhereted a bad situation. He made moves of value, the moneyball people love Morey. He has found value in guys.

4 candidates, 2 supreme role, are they coaching in the playoffs or whats the situation?

Wish I could tell you. I cant get him to tell me. Within a week, I think we'll have a head coach. They had a 5am flight yesterday, flew somewhere. Can tell you its not Mike Malone, not SA assistant, neither Van Gundy, I wish I could help you but they're doing a good job keeping it under wraps but I believe they're down to two guys. 2 guys have seperated themselves. They're close to making a hire. Daryl did say if one of the guys is in the playoffs, that would obviously keep us from making a hire. I know some names floated in the media have never been on the radar but Daryl's choice in that was to say either we dont want that guy or not comment. This is a 4 step process. As soon as he's done hiring a coach, hes on to the draft. I bug him on FA. Wont have FA until January or February. THey'll be frozen for months and months. Stern serious about a hard cap. Feeling in organization is Gasol with resign, Nene will resign, whatever offer for Jordan, Clippers will match. That leaves Dalembert. Computer at Toyota Center says the Rockets have such a gaping hole at C, Dalembert improves them by 4 wins. Doesnt sound like a lot but when in 42-45 win range, 4 wins could make difference. Thats just the minimum they have to do. So much more they have to do with the roster. They feel its great draft for Euros. Daryl feels the pressure, they need to get to the playoffs next year. One thing to say we're growing and making good trades, all that matters at the end of the days is wins.

For first time, Daryl will now be graded. Before it was flying colors, everyone loved what he was doing. Last offseason and now, people are asking questions. If he doesnt up the roster, and coaching search doesnt bring someone people are excited about, that is what he will be graded on.

That is fair. I dont think its fair to criticize him up until now. He had his hands tied behind his back. This is the first offseason he wont be shackled by Tracy and Yao. Will be frozen in place. Its popular to rip the guy, I call thumb sucking analysis by some. Hey, you didnt get us Rose or Durant or Wall or Joe Johnson. If you were good, you get us those guys. Now he does have his chance to shape the roster now. Lets see if...they need to get something in the draft. Not nearly good enough right now. Hes on the clock and he knows it. Right after he let Adelman go, fun to say mutual seperation but Rockets didnt want him coaching that team. They felt he was right coach for Tracy and Yao but now want coach that will go along with all the work that is yet to be done. He was getting killed on talk shows around town. I called him and asked if hes doing ok. He said, I know I put the whole organization on the line by making this switch, but why have this job if you arent going to take some chances? Gotta be better than just the 8th playoff spot. Rockets ownership and fans who have experienced success, even though its been a long time, just making the playoffs shouldnt be the goal.

Deductive reasoning: Malone of the Hornets, Casey of Mavs, Mario, do those sound like guys who fit the profile?

Malone not a candidate and SA assistant wont interview with anyone. Casey a guy Ive known, I dont know how he feels about...he or Mario. I think we know by this time next chance.

[Caller]: I go back to...people say Morey was hamstrung by Yao/Tracy. First of all, Yao had not played a full season last 4 years. Was getting worse. T-Mac never played full season in whole career. Saying that he was hamstrung, I dont buy.

Let me interrupt. Injuries didnt sneak up on him but organization was committed to those guys. He couldnt get out of Yao's contract. Like last year, Yao exercised option last year. Decisions like that are bigger....I think they were commited to those 2 guys. There is a player here, dont know if I should say the name, Van Gundy wanted to get rid of him and Les was committed to the guy, because he had numbers, wont say name, been on 1560 a bunch, but Van Gundy finally said, not sure if he said directly to Les or Dawson, he said this guy is a bleeping loser, is in it for his numbers, I dont trust the guy, if you want to win, you cant have guys like that around. Point Daryl might have felt that way. Divorce with Tracy was ugly. Fair to say they stuck with them too long but with those 2 guys, you were in for a dime, in for a dollar and I think Les wanted to stay with those guys.

[Same caller]: Second problem talked about is he had no cap room to deal with. He traded that away, the 11 mil they would've got if they let T-Mac rot out.

Last year? Goal last year...last offseason changed the way he looked at roster building. They were so committed to Bosh. They thought they could get it. By the time...they went down the list. LeBron, Joe Johnson. Ill never forget, someone in the org. said we hate Joe Johnson. Hes too loyal to the Hawks. Funny thing, by the time they met with Bosh, they knew he was going to negioiate this whole marriage with Miami.

[Same caller]: What was plan B? No plan B after Bosh?

Plan B was to go down the list after every FA. Johnson, even made calls about LeBron, Carmelo. I had the list at one time. You can second guess him on Stoudemire. At the deadline a year ago, the price kept coming down where they said we have to take another look at him. They decided, no, we have a plan here. Our medical people are afraid of Stoudemire. PHX people afraid of Amare. I challenged MOrey on this. I told him you're wrong on Amare, he said we'll see.

    [Thats about it]

Hmm... I don't recall who was on the radio often 4-5 years ago. I don't think the guy is Sura, though. Sura was only active during his first year and there was no reason to get rid of the guy since they didn't really have a backup for him most of that season (traded for Mike James midway).

Yeah, JVG is the type of coach who loves a Bobby Sura, not hate him. Actually, what coach wouldn't love Bobby?

I think Mike James was on the radio quite a few times.. other than that I'm momentarily stumped.

"he had numbers"...sounds more like Bonzi.

    Plus:

    http://slumz.boxden.com/f16/bonzi-wells-wants-return-new-coach-914536/

Wells told Houston television station KRIV that while he thought he was the missing link for the team that then-coach Jeff Van Gundy didn't think he fit in.

"He told me that I could ask to be waived and I told him I didn't want to be anywhere else. I hated the way it ended because I really started to appreciate him," Wells said.

I think JVG's view on stromile was that he didnt try, so i'd say it's hard to try to get numbers if you dont try to play much. Bonzi seems to fit the description.

I'm right there with ya Reek. Rocketgirl turned me onto Finch, he seems capable and runs the same style offense as Rick. Lawrence Frank is a solid guy with head coaching experience.

All the doubters that only see the horrendous season they had are closed minded idiots.

He was surely talking about Francis. Been on the show a bunch of time--did Bonzi? It being Francis is a strong reason not to mention his name, etc. Les very committed to him...marketing and everything.

    How soon we forget:

    GIVE YAO THE DAMN BALL!!!

Let's not forget that plenty on this bbs were yelling at SF and Cat to throw Yao the ball. ESPN was showing proof of it. It wasn't just JVG. SF couldn't play with Yao.

    It had to be Francis.
