Actually, the report is that the ROE were to kill him unless he specifically surrendered - then to capture him if so. He didn't. That sounds like a very prudent set of rules to me Would you have risked 1+ more american life for a substantially more dangerous ROE, to perform the incredibly difficult task of taking down a guy shooting at you with an assualt rifel while not killing him? I wouldn't. And while a trial would be great, we can't even try small fries here without it turning into political sideshow. . . all these factors make your "take him alive" scenario incredibly risky with questionable upside.
I truly hope you're right. But I have to disagree with you. I think his death will be used to re-ignite the stagnant War on Terror. Maybe in your social circle things are nowhere near what Greenwald suggests, but everything he wrote about is evident amongst my peers. Particularly, I was dismayed when hearing comments from my most liberal friends rejoicing over this news. Many of them are now clamoring for increased torture, rendition, black prisons, maintaining the number of bases abroad, and declaring war on Pakistan. Some even go as far as saying the last ten years have now been worth it in spite of the human and financial costs. It seems many mainstream Democrats are enamored with Obama right now. His personality and speech from last night have persuaded them to become hawkish and support the National Security state. The only other group of friends within my network who share these views work for the largest defense contractors and/or are ardent supporters of the former Bush administration. Ironically, my educated and moderately conservative friends have kept a cool head throughout this event, and alongside them are far left colleagues who've disliked Obama for some time now. That this group of conservatives and socialists tends to comprise of military veterans, bankers, economists, lawyers, a writer, and three professors is no coincidence. Those in the know leave the sanguinary celebrations to other people. "Kill the beast. Cut his throat. Spill his blood. Bash him in." - William Golding

Remember when McCain tried to make a big deal of it when Obama said he would go into Pakistan if necessary?
Dude has been dead for over 9 years. This whole thing has been staged. If you don't believe me, just look it up on many other websites.
I recall It being about invading, not drones, etc. And for the record, whatever i may have said earlier, i have zero problem with this. Zero. Spoiler Sam, you have my permission to add this comment to your list of bookmarks of my posts.
No! You're the dumbass.... Bin Laden died of kidney failure back in 2002 and has been a freezer ever since. They just wheeled him out at the most convenient time to distract us from the fact that Obama put out a phony birth certificate.
We spent ten years and trillions of dollars on the guy what would a few millions on a trail be. I wish they had kept the body. Maybe have some independent examiners. It sounds like they watched transformers.
Man, you guys need to listen to the entire thing. The first 30 seconds or so sounds like he's serious, but from then on it's apparent he's just being sarcastic to make his own far-fetched points. There's no jock-riding going on here.
