Someone responded to your post and stated that the mistake was done on a local Fox aflliate--not nationally on Fox News Channel.

However, according to your logic, the staff at MSNBC should be fired for having done the same thing. These people indeed...

The big difference is that you don't get paid THOUSANDS to be RIGHT on TV, AND you also didn't go to journalism or media school to text your friends. You know? :)

Agreed, it's not conspiracy, it's an incredible display of incompetence.

Yes, I addressed that. OF course I haven't scoured the entire multiverse to see if anyone else ran with it. Regardless.

I stand by the opinion that if you are a journalist and you accidentally reported that the president was dead when in fact it was the number one mostwanted terrorist, you should be in another business.

I think you give them too much credit...for some reason i always pictured the guy writing those messages as some intern in a broom closet who just has paper handed to him.

I'd imagine they usually get a proof reader but with the news flowing fast and furious i'm sure people were scambling and short handed.

Look, it's a stupid mistake but given the similarities of "osama" and "obama" mixed with a huge breaking news story that certainly created chaos in those news rooms, I'm not going to call for people to be fired.

those were not honest mistakes.. first typo my ass S and B are so far way from each other in the keyboard.. second why not mix up any other letter.. third really for this ticker of a very important event, anyone will at least double or even triple check it unless they did it on purpose.. .. whoever were directly involved in simple deep down inside still equate Osama = Obama and they are nothing but bigots..

No excuse, really. And truly, the guy who said it verbatim that it was the president? That's the one that made me comment.

exactly if it said odama bin laden then yeah i could say thats a typo but the B is not just 3-4 letters to the right of the S but a whole row down it was either purposefully or just something that was lying in the subconscious of the person who inputted it which is still just as bad to think that someone would believe that our president is the same as OBL

It's not a typo. If you are used to typing Obama 95% of the time you're going to type that instead of Osama especially if you're putting up information fast.

Either way I wouldn't care though, people are going to believe what they want to believe.

LOL. I'm watching Fox News now and Oliver North just had to correct himself for saying Obama while meaning to say Osama.

I agree, this is obviously a widespread conspiracy and rooting it out should take precedence over everything else that has happened in the last 24 hours.

I was in 10th grade in New York City when the towers fell, Queens to be exact. It disgusted me to no end, and I was equally disgusted seeing Iranians, Iraqis, Afganis, etc in celebration and burning of the American flag.

I thought to myself, Americans would never do that, we're better than that.

It's sad seeing people celebrate like morons outside the White House last night, almost shameful.

The death of Osama Bin Laden should be a joyous event, no doubt, but not with "go to hell", "burn in hell", or cheering like college frat guys. Rather, remembrance of the resilience of our nation, our people.

Saying "burn in hell" is an exact reciprocation of how the terrorists have treated us. This victory should not be viewed as dictating superiority, but harmony in co-existence.

All we need to know is that a bad man died; celebrate that.

I understand where you're coming from but it was a moral victory for this country. To long have we Americans had to sit and watch other countries burn our flags and totally disrepest our country. I think it's about time for other countries to see how it feels when someone does it to you.

I'm proud to be an American and I don't have a problem with anyone celebrating what took place last night. This country needs something to hang it's hat onto at the moment.
