Last night I was first in shock and surprise about this. This morning I am feeling kind of sad. If anyone deserved to die it was Osama Bin Ladin but I am thinking about all of the people who died on 9/11 and since then.

A few weeks after 9/11 I went to Ground Zero around 2AM on a drizzly night and saw the giant smoking pile that was the WTC. 3,000 people died then and tens of thousands since then all do to the hatred and madness of man. I don't know if the killing Bin Ladin brings closure to the victims but it is sad to think how a man like him can lead to so many deaths.

Likely threats to release him or else be attacked.

For those thinking that OBL isn't dead I just heard on the news that on a Jihadist website an Al Qaeda operative has posted a eulogy to OBL and promising more terror to come.

Also heard on the news that the US offered OBL's body to the Saudis for burial but the Saudis refused.

And, it's possible they didn't know and Bin Laden chose his hiding place knowing the place he picked would be one of the last places to be checked...as there was Pakistan military all around. In other words, the best hiding spot may be right under their noses. It is clear Bin Laden wanted to smokescreen everyone into believing they were hiding in caves in the mountains and moving between caves. But, I think a lot of us suspected he was living in a house somewhere and probably moved around between safe houses quite frequently. I'm surprised he seemed to be at this one place since last summer. I think he got complacent and his complacency ultimately led to his downfall. However, it took tracking a courier to get the intel. I believe OBL thought he had basically already won the cat-and-mouse game going on for ten years. He certainly didn't have the level of protection I would have expected. That was likely part of the effort to keep a low profile.

As far as all the retaliation threats, let them threaten. The fact is their main leader is dead. A lot of fear in the world turned into jubilation that the most evil man in the world is gone. No matter what jihadist militants say...there will never be another Bin Laden. Yes, his death may inspire more to join Al Qaeda and/or inspire attacks. But, the fact is the attacks were not going to stop anyway. They were always planning attacks before and they will be planning attacks after...threats or no threats. After all, this is a war.

Need to get #2. I think #2 may be more of an operational leader versus OBL...who was more the symbolic leader. Yes, Bin Laden made a lot of the big attack decisions as far as what he wanted to attack based on where OBL felt the priorities should be placed. But, #2 is probably the man doing all the work to make those attacks happen through whatever means available to him.

How is that any different from killing him and them vowing revenge? Not that I care either way.....but a lot of people rejoiced at the fact that he didn't have Miranda rights read to him, was not assigned a defender, did not get to go before a court, etc. so I don't think there is any ill will from what happened as evidenced by the reactions last night and today.
