This will boost Obama's approval ratings significantly. He is trying to appear very, very assertive. I think he is actually stressing the "under my direction", "I", etc. a bit much.
I hope everyone in that area of the world remains safe, it's scary about possible retaliations by AQ. My parents are worried.
Finally we have justice for 9/11. Thanks to our troops for tracking that b*stard down and props to Obama for having the balls to go into Pakistan to get his ass.
Honestly, I think he's been dead for a while. I think Obi Wan held on to the body for a while to release it at the right moment. First the birth certificate, now Osama, to the layman Obama looks like hot ish right now.
Obama has a true way with words. Its one thing to write a speech with the help of your advisers, staff, etc. And it's another thing to give a speech with subtle undertones of passion, motivation, and determination. And he stopped saying "um" after every pause.
One helluva speech. But where was the jumpsuit and "Mission Accomplished" banner? And will there be a Republican rebuttal?
Republicans will do what they always do when a Democrat has success, say it was all their plan to begin with. Look at the response of the prosperity of the Clinton years, Republicans say it was brought about by a delayed response to the Reagan era. Honestly, who cares who is responsible? Who even cares that Osama is dead. Someone will take his place, and he'll be as evil if not more so. We will always have an enemy, a nemesis. Black exists because of white, and vice versa.
Obama in his speech said "an American team" and generally when it is a mixed team a President would say "Americans and our allies so and so", so just speculating this sounds like the particular operation to get OBL was all American. Obama did say that Pakistan intelligence helped but I would be curious to what extent they did and I still find it somewhat suspicious that OBL could be hiding fairly near Islamabad. I am looking at a map of Pakistan and it looks like Abbotobad is just north of Islamabad. I don't know Pakistan well enough but is that one of the semi-autonomous tribal areas?
Fantastic speech by Obama. I know it's impossible to keep that kind of news from leaking, but it would have been chilling to hear it first from him.
The election is a long time from now and while OBL is dead gas prices are still high along with unemployment. I doubt this will be much of an issue in November 2012.
I thought it was appropriate. He had to give the go order and it damn well could have ended up like the hostage rescue disaster under Carter. His decision put Americans in harms way, created a possible opportunity for a huge propaganda victory for Al-Q if something had gone wrong (soldiers captured?) and a failure/deaths of Americans would have had the Repubs taking it to a whole 'nother level. Everything from the personal to the political was in play with this decision. Give him credit. He could have easily demurred and not risked anything. (Besides, he didn't play it up as much as some would have and spent a lot of time talking about the people who executed the raid.) Good day. We should all celebrate our accomplishment.
