I need suggestions and assistance on how to do so.

I have the iPhone 4 and software version 4.0

I contacted a family member who has done there own and he told me to do the following:

    1. Backup your iPhone...just in case.

    2. Download Limera1n, hook up your phone to your PC and run the program. It will take about 5 minutes.

Is it really that simple? Is Limera1n the best program/way to jailbreak an iPhone? If not, what else do I need to know? After the jailbreaking is completed, what are my next steps?

Is there anyway to revert back to original if I do not like the jailbroken version?

    Thanks.

Get an Android (Pref a 4g model) and do a root! Much nicer overall product!

See you on the droid side of life today sir. PEACE.

    Why even respond?

Pun, which software version do you have? I think that's more important right now for JB'ing than your firmware

Why do people do this? I obviously want assistance with the product I have now, I am not looking for a different product and probably won't be for another year as my upgrade options are not due until then. Thanks for the advice I guess.

You might just be able to go to www.jailbreakme.com in your phone's browser and jailbreak that way

Sorry, just noticed you wanted to know the next steps. After jailbreaking, it puts an app on your phone called Cydia. From there, you download all the extras and gizmos that people love to brag about with jailbreaking. It's probably best to do a CF.net search on jailbreak apps.

Do not update to the latest software/firmware -- it's likely that you won't be able to JB it. Stick with 4.0 and JB that

Any other recommendations for this? If I went to the latest firmware, is the jailbreak process still the same? Thanks.

Just out of curiosity, who's your service provider?

When you hookup your device to iTunes, it should automatically back it up.(unless you've altered the settings)

Whatever you do, try to avoid a "tethered jailbreak". Also I would suggest you update to the latest software version (4.3.2). Untethered Unlocks and Jailbreaks have already been released for 4.3.2:

    Jailbreak: http://www.redmondpie.com/jailbreak...nd-for-unlock-with-pwnagetool-4.3.2-tutorial/

    Unlock: http://www.redmondpie.com/unlock-iphone-4.3.2-with-ultrasn0w-1.2.2-tutorial/

If you follow the steps correctly, you should have a Jailbroken/unlocked device in no time.

And if you're unhappy with the Jailbreak, you can simply plug in your device to iTunes and just click restore(which will revert back to factory settings along with the newest firmware, 4.3.2)

Service provider is AT&T. Not sure what a tethered jailbreak is so I don't think I would try that. Any other recommend following this route?

    Thanks.

There are plenty of video tutorials on Youtube that will show you the entire process if that makes you feel more comfortable.

Hey Pun -- I JB my phone several months ago, but it was a tethered JB (ugh) and it was causing me a lot of problems, so eventually I returned back to the normal software. Tethered JB just means you have to plug it into your computer each time you need to restart the phone -- so if you're an idiot like me and turn off your phone when your plane is about to take off, you can't turn your phone back on until you plug it into your computer and restart it.

I just went through and followed the steps on the website adeel just posted and my phone is now JB again, tether-free. I would recommend following the steps on the site he listed, as it literally just worked for me.

Just make sure to sync your phone with your computer first so it saves your latest info/contacts.

dude... you obviously dont follow the jailbreak scene and are living in the past. There are some new features on the new firmwares that are worth upgrading to. Faster, more stable, bug fixes, new features, etc. Plus the if you actually paid attention you will see the newest firmwares have been jailbroken and they WORK perfectly for everyone including me.

    I'm on 4.3.2 jailbroken iphone 4
go to iphonehacks.com and just follow the links and steps there

Yeah, I was living in the past. I didn't realize they had a JB for latest update so soon. Apologies.

no problem.. :) good luck if you decide to JB. also agreed with your other post. Never JB if its not a untethered JB. Tethered JB sucks.

It took maybe 10 mins to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS on 4.3.2. At this point the only real hassle in jailbreaking is that you have to restore and then sync everything again.

All I did was download redsn0w and run the program.

The instructions are laid out perfectly and it's almost impossible to get it wrong nowadays.

IDK if redsn0w works on iPhone 4 though.

What is the reason to jailbreak the iPhone? I just got mine through Verizon and am pretty happy with what's on it. Is it really a upgrade over what's on the phone now? What can you do with a JB phone that you can't do with a regular one?

    -Noobie. :(
