I agree, I would not mind taking a flier on Bowers. If his knee holds up he'll end up being a hell of a player.
Funny how the Texans haven't found that player that will make Mario Williams great. Actually, it's not funny. Suh is a leader and to think along with Vanden Douche they have a legit pass rush that will scare any team. Thank God for Okoye!
And with 4 legit starting defensive ends, and only 2 starting quality linebackers, the Texans can run a 5-2, and really throw the league for a loop.
They have proven to be good at keeping tight lipped (despite what Mighty Quinn on 790 says, who claimed that the Texans are the worst team in the league at hiding what they are doing) but savvy at playing the field on draft day? LOL? They have never made a good draft trade and they've had one good draft in their history. Savvy isn't a word I'd ever use to describe them.
Perhaps savvy was the wrong word choice, I meant keeping their preferences to themselves and being able to typically get the guy they are after. Savvy was trading back to get extra picks and still getting the RB we needed (at the time) in Ben Tate. Not savvy was drafting several turds with those picks.
Not really. They traded their 2nd (51) to Minnesota for Minny's second (62) and third. Minnesota duped them and grabbed the guy the Texans had wanted. Because of that, the Texans had to trade BACK up with New England to get Tate since he was the only viable RB left for them. They then moved the third they got for a 4th and a 5th. At the end of the day, the net result was they got Darryl Sharpton and Sherrick McManus for moving down. They spun their wheels.
Yeah, just like there were good choices when the Texans picked in the 1st round. I'm so tired of them making these "safe" picks. When we took Cushing, a guy with a fiery attitude, it really paid off and he turned out to be the DPOY. Why can't we go for more players in the mould? Instead we take a guy at one of our deepest positions that will definitely do his job, but probably won't be anything crazy like Cushing WAS his first year. I would have preferred someone with the potential to do that, even if it involved risk. Not to mention I would have preferred drafting at a position of greater need and getting more value out of our pick (Fairley, Quinn, or maybe Prince). But hey, Watt does make sense...he was a TE. Pugs
Aaron Glenn will announce the Texans second round pick tonight. Former players for each team are announcing their picks and Glenn is the Texans representative.
McClain: Felt bad for them. They wanted Aldon Smith. Thought he could be great pass rusher. ... They were just poorly coached in secondary, not as bad as they showed. They'll draft OLB, CB or CB, OLB. Would like to see Brooks Reed, dont know if he will be there. If they go CB, maybe Ras-I Dowling, maybe get Dontay Moch in 3rd round then. How many more defensive picks? I'm guessing out of the 8, 5-3 or 6-2. If they play under rules of last year, they wont need WR or T or QB with Butler, Jones, and Leinart coming back. Only way they dont play under those rules is if they reach CBA. I think they'll play under those rules. Draft as you always would. Still got FA. I know they'll get a vet CB even if they get a CB in 2nd round. Need more depth at LB. Need safeties. Terrible year for safeties. Too much to ask for Aaron Williams to drop to them. Expecting him to go early. Feel terrible for Andy Dalton. No date for FA. What about undrafted FAs? Cant sign anyone. Players can work out today. Team meetings Monday, then start OTAs. One problem: Owners could get stay this afternoon and its shutdown again. They must have info. Why would they say they're opening the doors? They have to. League told them. They dont know anything coming from the appellate court. Surprised 4 QBs in Top 12. 2 new in the AFCS. Everyone would say you are reaching on Locker at 8. If you trade down, Washington or Minnesota could've gotten him. Ponder at 12 a shocker and reach. Those guys were seen as 3rd round picks at the combine. ... NO had great first round. Seattle taking Carpenter, they take 2 tackles in back to back years with so many other needs. Cincy 3rd in 2nd round. Maybe Dalton or Mallet. Thoughts? Would much rather go to AZ than Cincy. Would love to see the Texans get Brooks Reed or Aaron Williams. Bringing in 6'4 260 lb Brooks Reed with long blonde hair like Clay Matthews and jumps around like Matthews, wouldnt be a bad pick.
