There are some realy good players that we could take tommorow.. Aaron Williams from texas Brooks Reed Marvin Austin from UNC Broandon Harris from FLA and Justin Houston from georgia could all fill needs for us and i would expect us to take one of them tommorow.... one of those guys would be really sick.
Yep. Rahim Moore is still out there too. We don't need to make sexy picks to appease fans. We need to make solid picks..basically quoting Mcshay here..
More importantly we should actually try to fill a need this time. Look i dont mind watt but the fact is that we are at least servicable at DE. Olb and S are much more pressing and i would have liked Quinn or Fairly ... oh well. I dont buy Barwin as the LB . I think we need to take one. As bad as our secondary is... there are a lot of nice options in FA like taylor and Aso ( pipe dream) and while S is a need i dont think it is as bad as OLB.
Putting a mediocre CB at Safety (a position he has never played before) doesn't mean we're set there... if anything, it highlights the need for more talent.
Really liking our setup for tomorrow. Ayers, Houston, Moore, Williams would all be nice. I don't mind the Watt pick from what I hear about him. I don't hear/see anyone credible scratching their head about it like KJ last year in the media. It is sure going to hurt if Fairley turns out to be a beast though. I have a feeling he came off like an unmotivated tool in interviews, though, to slip so far. He was nearly a top five lock not too long ago.
My wish list: 1. Rahim Moore 2. Brandon Harris 3. Aaron Williams I'm also tempted to trade a future pick for another 2nd and take a chance on Da'quan Bowers. I wish I knew more about his knees but the reward could be HUGE.
Marvin Austin Stephen Paea Rahim Moore Aaron Williams Akeem Ayers Da'Quan Bowers would be fine w/ any of those really looks like wade is planning on moving mario to OLB
Watt is not a sexy pick with potential high reward, but the guy is going to be pretty good. It'll be nice to get someone that has a motor to match Mario's playing opposite him. Watt should be able to finally take the double team away from Mario in a way that Antonio hasn't been able to. Like someone else said, he could even play nose in Phillip's system. I can see a three man rotation all across our defensive line between him, Mario, and Antonio. All three are big enough to play nose in Phillip's system. Watt is the prototypical Texans' pick, though. Low risk, great character, nice background pick. The kid walked off a Central Michigan team to compete at Wisconsin. He didn't have a scholarship, so he delivered pizzas at Pizza Hut to pay for school until he got a scholarship. The guy has a freakin' motor. He's got one of the busiest motors I've seen out of a college player. He plays at 150 mph. I like the pick. I mocked him to the Texans (in a trade down, but still) in January. Kind of a luxury pick, but I like it. I just wish we somehow could have traded up for Jimmy Smith. I don't see us getting Nnamdi, but we could make a run at another CB. In the second round, I'd be ecstatic if Akeem Ayers, Justin Houston, or even Brooks Reed (Actually, I think I like Reed the most of these three) landed in our laps (which I don't think happens). If there is no great rush linebacker, we need a corner. I think Paea and any other nose is off the table with us now.
sounds exactly like a Texans draft pick. "nothing to get excited about, but, ehhh...he's pretty good." more thrilling news from the boys on Kirby.
So I was thinking on the way to work today. Not once did we hear Watt's name connected to the Texans in the buildup to the draft. We heard Smith, Quinn, Peterson, Prince... even a little Fairley talk, but no Watt. In fact, the only time I remember hearing about him was McClain saying that Wade's system wasn't fit for Watt. Is this proof of concept that: 1) McClain doesn't know s**t and/or is a giant mouthpiece for misinformation/spin from the Texans and 2) The organization is actually pretty savvy when it comes to playing the field on draft day and keeping tight lipped I guarantee you that you guys will end up loving Watt. The only reason I didn't have him on my radar was because, just like the Texans wanted, I assumed that Wade had decided he wasn't fit for his system. And to everybody saying we should have traded back if we were dead set on Watt, I really don't think he would have made it past St. Louis or Washington, and definitely not past San Diego. So the amount of trade partners was extremely limited, and the likelihood of getting a good deal when you only have 3-4 teams (at most) you can trade with is a lot less.
Ideal second day: Texans trade Okoye and #42 to Denver for #36 and #67. (I think Okoye will thrive somewhere else, but he doesn't have a place here.) Texans pick Stephen Paea with #36, Sam Acho with #67, and best DB on the board (Curtis Brown?) at #73.
Likely second day: Texans draft a TE of East Middle Nowhere and announce the return of Bennie Joppru.
