That is a mediocre team, no better than where he is at now. Also magic don't get any youth.

Howard and Martin would be explosive

How many r****ds on this thread completely disregard the fact that Yao is no longer a Rocket? You can't trade somebody that is not in no shape or form under contract r****ds. ****ing stupid.

I have two proposals. They aren't exactly serious, as much as they are challenges to my fellow CFers.

    1) Yao, Thabeet, Hayes, PPatt, Scola, Martin, Lowry. This leaves us:
    Howard / Miller
    Hill
    Budinger / T-Will
    CLee
    Dragic

This is the kind of team most teams are when they trade for a superstar. Would you do this? We'd have to take a couple of years to surround Howard with players.

    2) More reasonable:

Yao, Thabeet, PPatt, Scola, Martin, plus 2 1st-rounders. This leaves us with:

    Howard / Miller
    Hayes / Hill
    Budinger / TWill
    CLee
    KLowry / Dragic

I think we'd have a pretty good team from the get-go here, and I think the trade would be reasonable from Orlando's POV.

I can hardly see how anybody wouldn't do this.

I'm missing something. Maybe I'm tired, and I don't feel like reading the SalCap FAQ

Doh! I guess I am tired. What I want to know is, why no S&T? Because we won't have a CBA? They can make the rules for the new CBA say whatever they want. Or is there something about the DPE that I've forgotten? Just off the top of my head, I'm not seeing what you're talking about.

Wouldn't we have to take some players in return? I mean 4-7 players would be going back to Orlando. They would have to include some players from their side to open up some roster spots for the incoming players.

Assuming we can trade Yao through a sign and trade, and that Howard would threaten to leave Orlando forcing their hand to trade him and also assuming this would go down on draft night ... I'd would do this (not a serious proposal):

    Rockets receive:
    Dwight Howard
    Earl Clark
    Daniel Orton

    Orlando Receives:
    Yao Ming
    Jordan Hill
    Chuck Hayes
    Luis Scola
    Kevin Martin
    2012 NY Pick
    2013 Mem Pick
    2012 Hou 2nd rd Pick
    2011 Hou Pick (Lottery Pick)
    2011 Orl Pick

    2011/12 Rockets Roster:
Dwight Howard/ Daniel Orton/ Hasheem Thabeet
    Patrick Patterson/ Chuck Hayes
    Chase Budinger/ Earl Clark
    Courtney Lee/ Terrence Williams
    Kyle Lowry/ Goran Dragic

Are you going to allow yourself to get drawn into the Dwight sweepstakes...

...or have you learned better from the Bosh, Melo, and Deron failures/Morey fantasies?

    Believe.

Nice going preteen, you trade Chuck then expect Magic to waive him? Oh but Chuck and Ming are not even Rockets anymore. Why would either do a sign and trade when they can just get contracts elsewhere? This league has offices talking about both as we speak.

So your recommended course of action would to not try to compete for Dwight and watch him go to another team?

When the alternative is to go through the motions, waste everyone's time, and watch him go to another team anyway? Yeah.

When the price for Howard would be a depleted team? Yeah.

Cheap talk! This costs you nothing to say. If you're wrong in a year or so, nobody will notice, but if you're right you get to say you called it.

But yeah, I've already been drawn into the sweepstakes. I was rooting for Atlanta. Dwight is the type of player that you'd trade any of the team for.
