Not gonna lie, but when I saw he was 290 pounds and had a 37 inch vertical, I thought he was an android.
I'd love to hear the in-depth scouting reports from those of you convinced of what an awful choice this is. Please detail the games you've watched Watt and your depth of scouting.
http://chron.stats.com/nfldraft/players.asp?id=158012 Watt is poised to be among the first defensive linemen selected following a stellar season at Wisconsin and an impressive performance at the NFL combine. The Pewaukee, Wis., native decided in January to forego his final year of eligibility after earning All-America and consensus all-Big Ten honors in 2010. He won the Lott Trophy, given to the impact defensive player of the year, and then placed among the top linemen in every competition at the combine. Watt was a Hendricks Award finalist after finishing tied for seventh nationally with 21.0 tackles for loss, and his seven sacks were tied for second in the Big Ten. While his recent success has come at defensive end, he didn't start his collegiate career at that position - or even on that side of the ball. Recruited to Central Michigan as a tight end, Watt caught eight passes for 77 yards before transferring. He switched to defense after arriving in Wisconsin in 2008, and started all 13 games at end in his first eligible season. During that 2009 campaign, Watt finished second on his team and sixth in the Big Ten with 15 1/2 tackles for loss. Watt had 106 total tackles over his two seasons with Wisconsin, including 62 in 2010.
Fairley is a freak! Do you think there's anybody out there who's available that would solidify our DT need? I don't think so. He's was the best player available and he was projected to go at least 3 spots in front of us...we could've traded down and still got Watt if that's who they wanted. Shouldn't have expected anything less.
I made a lot of noise about how I wanted them to take a risk, but that risk I was looking for was jumping up for Miller or Peterson... Watt isn't a sexy pick, but I would be freaking shocked if this guy doesn't have a very long, decorated career here. Safe pick is an understatement IMO.
Its not the worst possible pick but my God if we didnt want one of Quinn, Amukamara, or Fairley... then we should have traded back. Maybe we dont value them highly but i am pretty sure that other teams do. We screwed up. Personally i would have loved Quinn or Fairley and think that at least the texans made the right move by not taking a cb.... still quinn and fairley are top 5 talents that slipped due to injury and character concerns respectievly, but they were top 5 talents and fell to us. LOL . Oh well maybe watt wont be that bad. still we should have traded back.
I take it you have in-depth contacts within the Vikings, Lions, Rams and Dolphins organization to know what they were going to do?
