I think the idea is that they want to get like $500-700 from you, and you think you're getting 75% off or something ridiculous.

Lucky for me, the best buy shares a parking lot with Firehouse Subs, which I frequent for lunch. :)

I got approched by these guys at memorial city's parking lot. Its seems they have moved beyond speakers. The new thing they are pushing is a 3-d projector. Says the list price on the box is like $6000. Same story though, 'Had an extra and can't go back to his boss with it.'....pshhhhhh.

Ugh, electronic stores are so infuriating. Both Fry's and and Best Buy feel like used car dealerships, they way they scam you out of their money. I don't understand why anyone would buy anything from either store, when you can just buy online.

Now I just go to test stuff out, then buy it off Amazon.

A bunch of crooks, all of them.

I've seen those guys a few times.

Me and my dad once were in a gas station when they pulled up offering speakers. I used to buy stolen stuff all the time when I was younger in "da hood" so I thought he was a crackhead. They guy said $180 for the pairand I said, "How about $20?" he said "no" and then I went to inside to pay and when I came back he told me, "ok".

I kept those speakers in my garage for a week till I sold them to some Immigrant for $50

PS: this was in the early 00's like 2001

Fell for this I think in 1996 at a Best Buy parking lot. There was no Amazon back then so one had no choice but to go to Worst Buy.

Same story. I was around 16 so fell for it. I remember saying I don't have $200, but he took $50 and another $100 worth of clothes I had bought! lol

Speakers weren't that bad. I used em in the garage and thought I was pimp till I found about the scam years later.

Sold it to someone for $100 I think.

this is embarrassing, but when i worked at chili's on 1960 around 03' or 04' i picked a pair of these bad boys up. When i got home (now, I could have just done this on my phone) i researched the speakers on the net and the first thing that came up was the scam.

You can actually buy the scam as a package and they tell you the best way to use it on people. They send you the bogus speakers plus a catalog that shows the bogus speakers going for a lot more than what they're selling them for.

Some dudes approached me a couple of months ago in a Wells Fargo parking lot slanging speakers and I engaged them just long enough to remember their license plate and called APD. I can't believe they're still doing this same scam, maybe there is a legal loophole or something.

I was with a friend once and we were approached. I recall my friend went for it even though I was telling him it was a scam. People get caught up in the prices and seem to believe that it's worth the gamble because they are ridiculously cheap...so how could they go wrong? At least the speakers worked but so many people out there don't know crap speakers from good speakers. They will be content hearing whatever comes out of them thinking they got a deal.

It's funny how every time they approach someone...it's like the first time and it's never been done before. If you are gullible enough to believe a couple guys in a white van just had extra stock they are trying to quckly get rid of at great prices, then these speakers are probably for you.

It was 6 or 7 years ago, so I'm not really worried about it. I think they only got maybe 150 bucks off me, but it was when I was struggling so it pissed me off pretty good at the time.

I still have the speakers back home in my mom's garage. I never even tried to hook them up.

Damn, theyre still doing this scam. Happened to a friend, said a bunch of guys approached him in a van and offered some speakers. He bought two for $300, but later found out the scam and sold em both on ebay for a loss. If I remember correctly the speakers weren't that bad, but im no expert.

It's not always a white van, but point taken. The guys in Austin that approached me were driving a brand new suburban. I thought, I'm not alone.

I'm sure they work. You should try to sell em'

Regardless, this "Scam" feeds off of an individuals' thirst for a "steal" of a deal.

If they were "extra" speakers from someones job they would be considered stolen so If you bought them and now feel like you got robbed isn't that Ironic? I found the catalog online http://www.kineticloudspeaker.com/

Here's what the PDF says in fine print:

*Model number and manufacturer's suggested price are for identification purpose only.
*Manufacturer's suggested price do not represent bona fide selling price in the metro trading area
*Manufacturer reserve the right to make changes on specification and material.

    LOL.

I'm definitely guilty of buying random things just because I feel I'm getting a deep discount. I have no qualms with buying stolen goods, as long as I'm receiving the proper discount.

    ...and it is ironic.

The next time I'm over at my moms I'm going to dust them off and see what's up.

you interested? I'll get you a good deal.

^^^those look way better than the crappy ones I got 7 years ago.

I wasn't directing my comments directly to you or anyone in this thread versus the in general "you"...just so you know.

I'm just not one that believes any sellers who approach someone out of the blue in a parking lot claiming to have a great bargain on some merchandise they need to get rid of for whatever reason and especially out of their car...no matter how they try to spin it or what papers they have. Those persons are not to be trusted. It could be any item...not just speakers.

It's human nature to want to give people the benefit of the doubt a lot of times and have some trust that what their saying is true. But, that's what gets people into trouble.

I had my doubts at the time, I had to wait till I got off to get to a computer and verify my suspicions. Everything you said is true, I just found out the hard way.

Recently, I was approached/accosted by a couple of substance abusers in a white truck, peddling MEAT. I immediately dismissed them.

I did not allow them to start their script, but I have to wonder, who would buy meat from anybody in a truck?
