USA TODAY's team of NFL reporters (Jarrett Bell, Jim Corbett, Nate Davis and Sean Leahy) team up with the gurus from NFLDraftScout.com (Derek Harper and Rob Rang) to offer their own mock draft projections at how the first round will shake out on April 28
Interesting that the majority of the analysts see Miller going at #5. That gives me some (false) hope the Texans will trade up and get him.
Fairley's stock has been falling as of late and I can see him dropping well out of the Top 10 if the Titans don't pick him at #8. Him and Suh would be a sick duo though.
Okay the big day is upon us and I cant wait to get this thing started. Too much excitement in the air right now. So, here my final Texans mock: #11 Robert Quinn DE/OLB This one is pretty much too obvious for Rick Smith to blatantly screw up. Mike Mayock is absolutely dead on in that Quinn might be the most talented player in the draft. The Texans need an elite pass rusher for the new 3-4 scheme and Quinn fits in perfectly. Let's just hope we don't get screwed by our rivals Titans or Cowboys who are picking ahead of us. At the end of the night, it will be a excellent draft for the Texans to come out with Quinn in hand. #42 Phil Taylor NT It's no secret on this board that I have been advocating the selection of Taylor for months now. A 6-3 334 lbs freak of nose tackle is exactly what we need to plug the middle of the line. Earl Mitchell is just not good enough for me. I still stand by my earlier prediction that 2 years from now whichever team takes Taylor will come out as the winner of this draft. *trade* 2nd round Rahim Moore FS This is a need for the Texans which must be addressed immediately. Thus, I project the Texans to trade up into the early 2nd round to get Moore. Troy Nolan should start looking for employment elsewhere. Also, Kreamed Jackson will never amount to a solid safety if he is moved so lets not waste another year of piss poor secondary before we stockpile DBs. That's how I believe the Texans will draft, but then again Rick Smith is still our GM so don't get you hope up that we will absolutely nail this draft like we should.
Trading up to get Miller or PP just doesn't feel like a Texan type move. Now, maybe Wade's influence changes that but all indications were he was in love with Aldon Smith which should be there at 11. Good stuff tonight, can't wait to see what wheeling and dealing takes place across the league...should be nuts.
Am I the only one who thinks mock drafts are just ridiculous and who can't wait for the freaking draft to be overwith? The thing gets played up like it's March madness. Not one of those guys has ever done a thing in the NFL, and the majority of them will never do much and be largely forgotten within 18 months. If not sooner. Overhyped, overplayed, anticlimactic bunch of hot air. I'd rather watch my children have a fart contest.
McShay just said, again, that the Texans trying to move up to #5 for PP. Lots of smoke on this...would be odd to see the Texans do this.
Man, the Titans getting Fairley is really going to be a bad matchup for us. All that pressure up the middle always throws our offense off.
I agree wholeheartedly. My interest in the draft is less than zero this year due to the lockout and the Texans head-up-their-asses draft history which leaves me with a huge case of meh. I plan to skip the NFL PR special and watch the Mavericks try to impersonate a tough basketball team. BTW, did you read McClain's draft ranking for all of the Texans' picks? All of those defensive linemen taken in 2002 & 2003 with nothing to show for it. How fitting...
Needless to say, this would be a dream scenario... McShay's final mock has the Texans taking Peterson while staying at 11. http://houston.sbnation.com/houston...-mock-draft-todd-mcshay-final-texans-peterson
Could shock the world and take Andy Dalton. --- Jason LaCanfora: Communicating with GMs, hearing many teams in top 10 at least exploring trading down. Heard DEN, CIN, CLE, SF, AZ, DAL and WSH all mentioned
LOL, a "Texan type move" would be trading UP to get Aldon Smith. Or perhaps drafting a TE at #11. Agree on the mock draft stuff. Only reason I look at them is to learn about the players, since I don't get a chance to watch much college football anymore. But how credible is your mock draft if you change it 3 times a day?
The hot prospect: LSU CB Patrick Peterson. He's probably the one player teams might consider trading up in the top 10 to get. I had Houston moving up to No. 7 to pick him in the first round in my mock draft last week; this week, ESPN's Todd McShay had Houston moving up to number five, dealing with Arizona, to get Peterson. I've been told in the past couple of days that Houston GM Rick Smith is loathe to use so much draft currency to move up from 11 to five or seven to get Peterson (it would likely cost him the Texans' second-round pick to do so). If the Texans don't trade up or down, then no matter who they take it will feel like a disappointment. Aldon Smith still feels like a bust risk to me. Play the Cherry Pick game! Go to http://walterfootball.com/draft2011.php and make your 8 picks. Rule: you can't pick anybody above the Texans pick but you can cherry pick from below. 11. CB - Prince Amukamara Nebraska 42. CB - Ras-I Dowling Virginia 73. DE/OLB - Justin Houston Georgia 105. NT - Jerrell Powe Ole Miss 138. CB/S DeAndre McDaniel Clemson 178. WR Terrance Toliver LSU 214. DE/OLB Cheta Ozougwu Rice 254.
