what I’d like to see, off the top of my head and guesstimating salaries... Dwight Turkey-Glue for Yao Lowry Bud Patterson Miller -say 2 picks -cash considerations Why the Magic do it: They want something for Dwight before chunks the deuce, and this whole thing with getting Hedo back and trying to do the Magic of 2 years ago obviously isn't going as well as they could've hoped. They get Yao and Miller for making up the size in the paint. They get young, solid talent in Patterson and Bud. Lowry though, I think would be the key. Though they have a great 1-2 punch in Jameer and Agent Zero, truth be told they probably just took Arenas from the Wizards just to unload Rashard Lewis. Why the Rockets do it: For those who immediately thought this deal would give up too much need to think about this. When trading in the NBA, and not the mind of the homerific fan, ONE MUST GIVE GOOD TO RECEIVE GOOD. Got to love Lowry and Patterson especially, but I guarantee after a week with Howard we'd forget about all that. IMO Lee could even start at the point and the rockets would still be able to have Dragic off the bench. Who cares. It'd look like this Dragic/Lee Kmart/Lee/Williams Hedo/Williams Luis/Chuckwagon/Hill Dwight/Thabeet Win? or not...just throwing that out there...
Orlando can do better than your offer for the best center in basketball. Number 2, how do you know that Dwight is sooo in love with SVG that he wants to follow him anywhere? Another star player probably would be more attractive than any coach short of Phil Jackson. It would be more realistic to dump all the long term deals we have & wait for the 2012 free agency period. Then maybe Howard & Paul could come together if we could get far enough under cap. Again that's dreaming BIG. And even that will depend on this CBA battle that awaits the NBA.
i never said "dwight is sooo in love with SVG", re-read the part about their relationship. orlando must cut their losses. the package i listed is more than sufficient, scola and a potential in the form of a top 5 pick are as attractive a core to a trade deal as any other out there. add 3 young players with great upside and 2 1st rd draft picks, plus the cap relief, offering anymore would be highway robbery. as for free agency, re-read the part about the lakers and the knicks. our chances of trading for him are far greater than our chances of outshining LA and NY, much less other more prominent media markets.
there is nothing...absolutely nothing....on this roster that i would hold on to if the return was dwight howard.
And then our GM could presumably do a nice job of putting together complimentary pieces. This whole idea that you put the role players together and then bring in the superstar doesn't work for lots of reasons. Ultimately, if we want the star, we're going to have to pay for it. Oh, and by the way, I would absolutely rather be the Magic than the Rockets right now. I'd trade our roster for theirs every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
If these were the only two teams in the league, then yes, they would take that deal, if they knew Dwight was leaving. But, half the teams in the league can make a far better offer. *****, the Lakers can just offer Bynum, Odom, and fillers for Dwight and Hedo. That would be far better than our crappy hodge podge of has-beens and unproven rookies.
Orlando before the trade - 21-61. In the 5 years following the trade - 36-46 36-46 40-42, playoffs 52-30, 2nd round 59-23, Finals
Nice homework there Hoya. But I still don't think we can lure Howard unless we go for broke and get another A+ level player (Chris Paul, etc). Howard's already tried (still trying) a loaded core of B+ level talent with Orlando. I say we gut everything except Hayes (Howard is more effective with another defensive big to draw fouls).
I think you underestimate our talent. Saying we're on par with Orlando is a bad joke. If you were to combine our teams, the starting lineup would be Lowry/Martin/Lee/Scola/Howard. You only need one good player to pair with Howard to be a contender, and Orlando has never had one.
But but Yao is better than Dwight! H2H says so! Why would rockets want to trade Yao? Resign him to a max deal, build around the best center in the league.
Not to mention the Knicks could upgrade and trade Amare for Dwight - don't think Walsh isn't eying that situation too.
Other teams may be able to offer better players but not a better package. Chase, Twill, Patterson, lowry, dragic, Lee and maybe hill are considered to have upside. If you are trading away dwight you want as many pieces as possible. Like denver from ny. The deal breaker is something that I haven't seen anyone on here talk about yet, it would be the piece we acquire during free agency. All of the trade proposals that we are debating on this thread do not include the potiential player we might have on roster after season starts. If we can find a way to sign a decent center this offseason like chandler, gasol, jordan, even dalembert or camby. That would be the most critical peice to making Orl want to deal with us. If we are able to replace dwight with one of the names above and our fillers. Our fillers are better than most teams. We need to keep Kmart and sign Chuck for certain. Lowry/Dragic- We would be okay with either but perfer to keep klow Chase/C.lee/twill - I would like to keep Lee SScola/PPatt- would be fine with either but perfer Patt Hill/thabeet/miller/Free agent Center = D. Jordan A potiential package would be. DEANDRE JORDAN CHASE BUDDINGER LUIS SCOLA JORDAN HILL/H.THABEET TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS We can actually afford to add another player For DWIGHT HOWARD HEDO TURKOGLU/ GILBER ARENAS- if they want GA for Dragic we keep chase. We would be the most efficent team in the NBA Lowry/Dragic Martin/Lee Turk/Williams/hamilton Hayes/Patterson Howard/Miller/Yao? We would own the NBA. The only bad part is that it is actually possible. We have to sign a decent Center in the off season for it to be possible but it is.
LOL! Well I guess all of our draft picks for two years, Scola, Yao, and Lowry might be enough. They would want something that hurts real bad like that. Maybe Martin instead of Lowry. I dont know? Would you do it for Scola/Yao/draft picks/Kevin Martin for Dwight Howard and filler?
That trade will nver work. U can't just trade fror Dwight straight up. You are going to have to trade a line up and you are gonna have to take on a nasty contract. Ny will not be looking foward to take on a huge contract that easily. Like hedo or arenas. The teams that are two deep at every position will have the highest trade bids for orl. Like Dallas, Houston, Sas, Mem.....oh I guess the whole sw division. If orlando trades howard they will be looking to retool like denver did
If the nuggets and jazz didn't want to trade their players in the same conference, why would the magic trade Dwight to another team in the east? The competition for Dwight, imo, is Dallas, Memphis, L.A., and Portland.
I know alot of the same readers here never like to give away too many of these role players here to get anyone. However here is your lineup even if you game them the proverbial farm of this Yao/Scola/Martin/picks for two years for Dwight and fillers/bad contract lineup would still look like this Dwight Howard/Miller Patrick Patterson/Hayes Budinger/Lee CourtneyLee/Lowry Lowry/Dragic But???? That assumes Morey is not as tight back there as some clutchfans and has the stones to do so. Which I dont believe by now.
