Three days into using this phone and I absolutely love it and Android. The integration of social networking in the OS, the convenience of the notification tray, the speedy responsiveness of the Tegra 2 (and I was using an iPhone 4, which definitely isn't a slouch)... I'm very pleased with virtually everything about this phone. I've taken a slight hit in battery life compared to my iPhone but this is still very respectable. The bundled games like Need For Speed and NOVA are fluid and really show off the phone's power and potential. I can't wait to get Gingerbread in a month. I definitely recommend this to anyone considering it.
Not even worried about that. For at least 2-3 years I'll be OK. AT&T knows they will have a short leash to keep T-Mobile customers like me who utterly despise them. Plus, I'm still not sure the merger will even go through.
I'm hoping after the battery cycles a few times that the battery life will get better even though I'm getting through a full day without having to recharge. Gingerbread mods should give it even better battery life. I hear great things about CM7, even T-Mobile is tweeting about it and giving the guy a G-Slate for his work.
CM7 got me about 30% more battery life on my HTC Glacier - I'd definitely recommend it when available.
CM7 is awesome on the G2, I'm waiting for it on the Thunderbolt, at least they got LTE working it's very much in alpha stage but it will be slick as hell with it comes out. I heard the G2X has a certain key combination you press to take screenshots without rooting your phone, can anyone confirm?
Just screen capture not root http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/23/psa-t-mobile-g2x-and-lg-optimus-2x-includes-two-button-screenca/ Didn't see the above post.
Right, I know that. I didn't say it would root your phone lol. I don't like one click root methods, sometimes things can go wrong. I use ADB but hey to each his own so you can confirm it does have screen capture without root? Awesome. That's a feature that needs to be standard in Android
Yes LG has a screen capture without needing a root. Just hit the power button with the home key like ChrisBosh said. First superoneclick to root now there's Clockwork Recovery one click. http://androidcommunity.com/lg-g2x-and-optimus-2x-get-1-click-clockwork-recovery-20110424/ T-Mobile just tweeted Gingerbread is coming sooner than expected to the G2X as well. I love this phone more and more.
the phone was sold out in my area, the guy I let go in front of me got the last one cause I wanted to play around with the phone first.
Ordered mine off Amazon Wireless yesterday. Can't wait for it to arrive. It'll be my first smart phone.
I remember seeing on the Tmo website that this would be a quad band phone capable of supporting AT&T 3g. Reports are out that they lied. It doesn't. http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/27/t-mobile-g2x-lacks-quadband-hspa-shatters-dreams/
I know a lot of people are getting their druthers into a bunch about this. It does suck that Tmo or LG lied about the specs. Not sure if they really lied or it was an honest mistake. Wouldn't make too much sense if they lied, otherwise there'd probably be a lawsuit, there might be one gearing up right now. If or when ATT takes over I don't think they would switch over right away. Would have been nice but I'll enjoy the phone as is right now. Whenever the switch happens then most of the users will be moving on to new phones anyway. Its kind of weird how our phones are made to last only a few years now. I'm actually surprised at the low resale value of phones that have only been out two years ago.
My apologies. You're right, they probably didn't lie, but still. I'm sure there was at least a couple of people who bought this phone thinking that they would be able to put it on AT&T. Hell, If i was still on AT&t instead of VZW i mightve bought it, it's a legit device.
Just got his a few days ago. Can't really comment in regards to how it compares to other android phones as this is my 1st android phone. All I got to say is "damn"... This is a thing of beauty. Smooth as hell. Sucks that it didn't come with any earphones or micro sd card. Oh well. Loving it so far. Is it just me or the apps addicting as hell... LOL!
Only problem that I've had with this phone is that it spontaneously shuts off. It's happened to me once every other day and my friend's shuts off multiple times a day. I end up having to pull the battery and rebooting. Is anyone else having these issues? Could it be a software problem that can be solved with an update or should I swap out the phone? If I have to exchange it, does anyone know if it is possible to back up my apps/settings/etc. without rooting?
All your stuff should be backed up in Gmail and Android market. I know some phones have had the reboot issues. My phone had that for a few days then I figured out it was the Huffington Post widget that was causing it. Once I removed it the phone hasn't rebooted since.
