Sam is so bad ass, even Kobe imitates him. I'm not sure how great of a coach he will be, but if we are going to give someone a chance, I want it to be Sam. He has made a winners out of every team he has been on.

Sadly, Vinnie Mac brought back Hogan, Nash, Hall and X-Pac and reformed the NWO in WWE for a short while...needless to say it failed.

I'm cool with Sam getting an interview but while Elie has coached under some of the better coaches in the league, Sam has only a few years and probably needs to more time as an assistant.

Maybe he can be, but there's no way to tell with the amount of experience he has right now. And I'd rather not have an inexperienced head coach learn on the fly.

I'd rather have a coach with more impressive credentials than "used to play for Rockets 15 years ago; 2 years as an assistant for one of the worst teams in the NBA".

Who is next Derrick Chievous? I guess if you have ever played for the Rockets, you can at least get an interview.

I will say this though, when Rudy was hired, it was a surprise to many people, and it turned out pretty well. It was also a surprise when Dierker was picked to be Manager for the Astros, and that turned out pretty well also. So, I guess you never know how it will turn out.

Nothing against Sam but replacing a HOF coach with him would be incredibly stupid. The guys that want him probably think Trump should be president.

I still prefer Elie. A guy with less in-game talent will know how to get more out of his team.

Yeah I do agree that he needs more experience as an assistant coach. But worst teams in the league or not, experience under Flip Saunders is good experience imo. And he pretty much was like an assistant coach for the Celtics and Rondo has blossomed into a great player.

Here is an interesting thread from 2008- http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=153922

For me it's either Paul Westhead or Ron Paul. Don't shut them out.

u know wat my heart says let sam coach but my head says lets get someone with better credentials. i've thought about sam coaching Rockets since he was playing with the Bucks, he's a really intelligent player and i liked him a lot when he played for the Rockets. i mean we just let a really good coach go, so how now? lets just go with something out of this world (ALIEN).

but seriously, sam chances of being the head coach of is extremely slim but i woudnt mind Ellie being the head coach and sam being the assistant!! hows that? hey its the offseason for us, cant we at least dream?

Is that including the games the Rockets clearly could have won? Even without Yao or any other All star center, the Rockets could have won atleast 5 more games early in the season. Those WTF games.

I agree with you on the D. Howard addition to the team, mainly because the Rockets would have to get rid of a chunk of the core.

If they don't trade for a center, and try to draft one etc. Do you still believe the Rockets would be willing to tank 2-3 years? Or would have to for that matter?

This would be almost as awesome as bringing back Turbo or Calvin Murphy.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

Look, we don't have much in our lives. Just give us this taste of early 90s nostalgia.

The first legitimate Sam Cassell Rockets-related news on the site in the past 15 years, and this thread is only 3 pages? Without Sam (or Mario, for that matter) there might not be a Clutchfans.

Calvin is NOT going to work for the Rockets again...Maybe if there's ever another owner....Him and Les don't get along. He's also probably NOT going to work for another NBA team...these owners mostly stick together..He's been black balled.

I know this from Calvin himself.

What other reason could there be that as great as a commentator he was, he still isn't working as one for any of the N.B.A teams or ESPN/NBATV/TNT. He's a hall of fame player w/ a retired jersey that can't even get a job w/ the Rockets, and he lives in Houston
