    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/

    Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

    1. Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
    2. Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
    3. Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained

    lol at ps3 network

Wow. What a colossal **** up for Sony.

And going a week before telling folks that their info was compromised ain't good either.

    From that blog:

ouch. Hopefully the credit card data is safe, but I guess at this point you have to assume otherwise.

I'm glad you're taking such joy in what will no doubt be a crappy situation for a LOT of people.

ScriboErgoSum posted the specifics, but yeah, Team Ico likes to take their time with games.

Perhaps you can defend these type of actions in other situations, but I don't think you can really defend the actions of the hackers (Anonymous or whoever) in this case.

If they had a problem with Sony, they could have hit them and only them. While this move ends up hurting Sony, it also hurts lots of developers/publishers (and not just the "big corporate" ones), and of course PS3 users. Arguably hurts Sony the least if anything. They got support in other areas, but this was a quick way to get people to turn on them (pretty hard to do when you're going against Sony I might add).

And hacking consoles to enable piracy is just as bad IMO. Don't necessarily have a huge problem with some of the other stuff though (e.g., enabling Linux support). If they want to attack Sony by doing that, I'd probably be all for it.

Awesome, keep up the meaningful contributions in this thread.

I'd put some blame on the hackers too, given that they're the ones who did this (also doubt Sony is the only company that treats hackers this way, especially when they break the law). Though if Sony relied on a bit more than security by obscurity, it probably wouldn't even matter (I'm guessing other companies are just as secure, or insecure, in these areas).

Anyway, yeah things not good for Sony and PSN users. I too am hopeful that CC info is "safe", but definitely need to be cautious. Sony was (and still is) doing a horrible job communicating relevant info to their users. I could maybe buy that they didn't know until recently what information could have been compromised. Assuming this was some other company anyway. But Sony? Probably not.

Sony more or less saying they didn't find out that data was compromised until yesterday. Of course, even if that wasn't true, they'd probably say something like that. Probably should have mentioned the possibility when they detected the intrusion (although maybe they did to some degree, can't remember). Either way, the communication was still horrible.

The crappiest part of this is that my wife and I watch netflix on PS3 and you NEED to login to PSN in order to watch movies. L-A-M-E

Should I call netflix and complain to them?

No you don't. I've been able to watch Netflix since PSN has been down. When it asks you to log on just click ok and proceed.

I did click OK then it goes to the PSN login screen to verify if I am a netflix user. I try logging in and it says PSN network under maintenance.

    Are you sure?
