Unlike going for a run before work (which tends to energize me for the rest of the day), I'm pretty sure P90X would have the opposite effect on me.
So you go 12+ hrs without food or protein? You should at least have a protein shake before bed...Casein protein since its slow absorbing and would provide your body with the necessary protein throughout the course of the night.
I eat enough protein throughout the day that I don't think I'm hurting for any at night, or in my sleep.
I'm starting to think I'm cursed. Same place I was last time I started, 2nd week of the program, I'm doing pull-ups and I hear a loud pop in my neck. I badly pulled a muscle back there, and now I can't really move my head at all. I'm going to have to take another week long break and then start all over. Bleh.
aww, that sucks. don't give up though, let it heal...hopefully third time's the charm. tomorrow i start phase 3! only 5 more weeks left. i've lost 13 pounds total, 4 inches off my waist and 4.5 inches off my hips! feels so good to be so much stronger and leaner, it's like night and day. i don't need caffeine anymore, which is pretty awesome. i'll post a before and after pic after i finish phase 3.
Are you using proper form? It sounds like you may be hunching your shoulders when doing the pulling motion. Try using your lats more. They'll hurt like hell the next day, but you will be in correct form and will quickly gain strength in that area.
Man, I hear that. I've completed P90X already, but I've started a new running routine that's got me really excited. Anyways, I've been playing ringer for one of my friend's company softball teams, and two weeks ago, I'm running out a throw to first when I feel a pop in my right hamstring. Bam, there goes running for a week. Well, fast-forward to last week, and I'm playing again, this time being extra careful since my hamstring was already tender, and I feel ANOTHER pop....this time in the OTHER hamstring. And this one was wayyyy worse....I guess I was compensating with my other leg. So now, instead of being 3 weeks into a new workout routine that should have already seen me getting pretty nice gains, I've been laid up, barely being able to walk. Needless to say, I'm done with softball. It's the debil....
that SUCKS! my hamstrings have always caused me problems, I pretty much had to stop playing basketball in high school because I kept injuring my right one.
I started P90X on Saturday. Did chest/back that day, and then Plyometrics yesterday. Well I tried to do Plyometrics...I made it about 35 mins into the video before I just didn't have anything left and had to quit. To make it worse, later in the day I helped the wife plant some flowers out back, so I'm sore as hell today and didn't get my workout in. I work from home tomorrow so thinking about trying to get 2 workouts in tomorrow, but we'll see. I was only able to do a couple pullups on the first day, and did the rest of the workout using a chair. Thinking about getting some of the bands though and trying that until I build up enough strength to do them properly.
I think you should stick with using the chair method rather than going with the bands. You'll get a much better workout. I was much the same as you when I started -- could only do a couple of pull ups before breaking out the chair -- but improvements will come.
Not joking, I went in at 198, my heaviest ever. After two weeks I'm at 184.6. I feel incredible! I'm wanting more and more. I went for a run about an hour after my workout tonight. My diet has improved bigtime but still could be better. My goal is to be a lean 165-170. For those of you struggling (I still do for sure) keep going, I promise you'll get much stronger and see results.
I did it! Just made it through Plyo, finally, all out, all the way. No modifications, no skipping-the-last-five-seconds-of-a-move. That last 30 seconds of reverse stance squat switch pickups was brutal, but I kept telling myself "You can do anything for 30 seconds!" (tony's words finally coming true). I was feeling so proud of myself at the end that I even jumped extra high during football hero. Put some recovery drink in my water and took one small sip during each break. Had to fight the urge to guzzle. It took til Day 59 but at least now I know, Plyo does get easier
My neck healed a lot quicker than I thought! Back on the horse again. I'll give myself 2 more weeks of repeating phase 1 to get my momentum back, then it's on to phase 2. I'm set to finish the whole program July 8th. Hope I can actually make it all the way without any setbacks this time.
Keep this thread going guys. Maybe I'll get inspired enough to actually do it. I got a big gut I need to get rid of.
I was doing underhand pullups, and I think I just tried to reach my chin too far above/beyond the bar... I was definitely putting too much strain on my neck for sure. I tried it again while keeping my chin stationary and tucked in, felt no pain. Just gotta slow down and take my time from now on.
I banged my head off the ceiling doing corn-cobs today. The chin up bar is set up in a little storage nook under the stairs. Also, is it just me or is Katie really annoying? (back & biceps video)
