Help us find some better clips then Aldon Smith super fan. It's pretty hard since the guys coming off injury and scouts are basing his high draft status on potential.

How high of a 2012 pick would y'all give up to take Janoris Jenkins from Florida in the supplemental draft, assuming he enters now? Minus the character issues, he'd have been a definite 1st rounder in this year's draft or next. And his "character issues" are weed, so it's not like he's PacMan Jones or anything. Id think he's worth a 3rd for sure and maybe even a 2nd.

Condescending drama seems a little excessive for one  use. Unless you're talking about my latter post, which was not directed at RocketJedi.

I'm starting to think that Clutch's suggestion of getting rid of the rolleyes smiley was probably a good idea after all.

So I don't think the guy is complete garbage, and somehow I'm a super fan? Wow. He missed all of three games last season, still had six sacks, and that's after an 11-sack season as a freshman. It's not like he blew out a knee and missed the entire season. He's had plenty of production.

Here's a package of one of his better games from 2009, when he was used almost exclusively as an edge guy.

His "character issues" are not just weed, his first arrest was for a downtown fight in which he ended up being tasered. His 2nd and 3rd were for weed but both have come within the past 3 months and both occurred latenight in public. Someone will take a chance on him but I won't mind at all if the Texans pass. Having all that talent won't matter if you're not on the field.

I was referring to the condescending tone employed in both posts, not to the emoticon. But you're right, my saying "all the drama" was a little much.

Ah, thanks for the correction, wasn't aware that Jenkins was the Florida player that got tasered. They've had so many damn arrests in the last 2 years, it's hard to keep up with! That definitely does make him a riskier proposition than I thought. Still think a future 4th is a great risk/reward opportuinity, but I couldn't fault a team for passing on him.

    I don't think anyone thinks he's garbage.

The heart of it all is, what is the best possible play for the Texans? Given their serious personnel issues on D, I (and most others) feel that getting a STUD is paramount. Not a guy that can win a starting job, a STUD. Is that Aldon Smith?

I think, it's my opinion, that the real prizes are:
    Peterson, Dareus, Miller

    Followed By:
    Quinn, Amukamara, Fairley

I think the "Aldon Smith is the next Demarcus Ware" is premature and at least arguable.

Not happy to hear Rick Smith already talking about the possibility of moving down in the draft. I personally feel his job should be firmly on the line with this draft.

The odds are very likely that all of those guys, expect Prince, will be off the board at 11 - so comparing Aldon to them isn't particularly fair. Yes, the Texans could really use Patrick Peterson. Unfortunately, he's not going to be on the board.

If you'd be disappointed in the Texans for not moving up, then yes, I would completely understand your perspective. What I don't get are the "anyone-but-Aldon-Smith at 11" types, quite a few of which have shown up in this thread. I think Aldon can be a stud, but there are definitely more proven guys, if you're comparing him to players at the top of the draft. I'll agree with you there. But eliminate five of the six you listed, and I have a hard time seeing how anyone could be that upset with the pick (in itself).

If Quinn and Prince are off the board at #11, I'd be okay with trading down as long as we're still in a position to draft one of Smith, Jordan, or Watt. While a DE isn't our biggest need, I think all three are relatively equal in terms of talent and that Jordan/Watt could have a more immediate impact on the defense.

Yeah, I saw that video and some others after your statement about his coming off injury and what not on that other video. I also want to say I do not think he is garbage at all. I just am not sure he is what I think the Texans should look for at outside linebacker, but since I am not a Pro I could certainly be wrong. Smith certainly has great inside rush ability, is really long with a pterodactyl-like wing span, and showed great effort on every snap. Even in this Colorado video there is really only one play where he really beats Solder (at the :34 second mark I think) and he fakes to the outside and runs inside- it is a nice move, and that is the thing that stands out to me and it could be because he is raw or I am looking at too small a sample but he almost always tries to go inside the tackle instead of around.

In this Quinn video there is an example of what I am talking about. At about the 10 second mark, look at how he beats Costanzo.

I just think we need someone, not necessarily Quinn, quicker off the ball on the outside of Mario that can dip and get around tackles, it's just my opinion, no big deal.

The UNC boys -- Quinn and Austin -- are going to be absolute animals at the next level. It's a shame the Texans are likely going to miss out on both, as Quinn will go in the top-10 and Austin's creeping in to the late 1st rd. I was really hoping we could snag Austin in the 2nd, as he's the most underrated player in this Draft, IMO. He ran a 4.9 and pushed 225 38 times (2nd highest mark regardless of position; checked in behind Paea of Oregon State), and is a disruptive force in the middle.

Lulz @ "whatever". Being a Texan fan, I feel like the guy who's girlfriend constantly craps on him, but he truly loves her so he's like, "maybe it was me...she won't hurt me again...I just know it".

The Cat, thanks for posting more about Aldon Smith. I think he has potential to be a great player. I'm not dogging the pick at all, if we draft him. I just was pointing out concerns over how high he seems to play (I've only seen probably two games that he played in, so I don't know a ton), and the fact that he always seems to leave his feet for a tackle. When comparing his tackling to Robert Quinn's, it's night and day, in my opinion. Quinn is a violent tackler that will run through you. Smith seems to be more of a wrap up and throw you, kind of guy. I worry about that in the NFL. Not that I know anything.

The thing about Smith that I like, though, are that he can drop into pass coverage, he has an NFL body, with room to add weight, he seems to be a freak, athletically, and he's got some pass rush moves. His weaknesses all seem to be correctable with good coaching, though - which is a good thing and a bad thing, when you're coming to Houston.

Here's how I feel about the draft:

Trade up and get Peterson. I would rather have Peterson over Von Miller, and I think anyone who thinks otherwise is silly.

If you can't get Peterson (and by all means, DO IT):

I hope Robert Quinn falls to us. Otherwise, I see the Texans reaching for someone like a Brooks Reed (which I'm fine with, other than the fact that it's a total reach).

In order(at positions of need), I like these guys:
    Peterson
    Miller
    Quinn
    Prince
    Aldon Smith
    Reed
    Houston

I'd support selling the farm for Miller.

I need a little more convincing about Peterson though.

Hopefully the Broncos will give us a Kubiak discount.
