Would be funny if he signed off on a trade that sent Amare out of NY but I'm guessing Amare will be involved in these discussions too if they really do ask for Melo's input.

Why not? Couldn't be any worse than the guys they've got in their front office.

If he's calling the shots (ha ha ha!), the first thing he needs to do is get a defensive-minded coach in there.

The Post seems a wee bit exaggerating. Most of the quotes are about normal stuff like winning -- wait 'till next year type stuff. Article opens with "he would like a big say" to later "he'd love to have input." Sounds like an editor added the first part.

I'm willing to bet the Rockets asked Hakeem a few times about giving his blessing on trades.

    Well that didn't take long.

Now that 'Melo certainly won't become a Rocket, I can go back to despising him. I predict that he will never even sniff a championship, and will end up being a bigger cancer than Tracy was in his last year here. Only, the Knicks will put up with it for much longer because they are desperate.

Actually the better article was the one from the Times this AM, when he says they had a tough run in the playoffs since they lost a lot of guys during the season...

...of course the only reason why they lost those guys was so he could get his before the CBA expired, now he's better off and the team is worse. But never mind that.

Thank God he won't hold our team for ransom. The Melo/Amar'e combo won't be any better next season. The back spasms are just the beginning with Stat.

    You're asking the wrong guy.

The "sound familiar" comment was a reference to our situation. How we essentially had the same record and could have been a 50-win team if we were able to win close or OT games. Fortunately, we improved in this regard after the trade deadline.

His first move will be to trade himself to the Lakers for Matt Barnes.

You raise an interesting point. If Melo gets input into FO desicsions, then why not Amare? Seems like a bit of a slippery slope there. What makes either one, or both, qualified to be involved?
