2011 NFL Draft Thread

Cam will keep the Panthers in the basement for another 3 years.

 

Can't get a read on any of the QBs this year.

I think Newton is another Vince Young waiting to happen.

Gabbert seems to have the intangibles, but does he have the talent?

Locker really regressed, should have declared last year and made money.

Christian Ponder apparently has very questionable arm strength.

Dalton seems really mediocre.

Mallet is a damn good QB at times, but he also seems a bit unstable and might be a flameout. Then again, he could be the next Rivers.

Kaepernick intrigues me, because he's big and mobile, evades the rush well and shows promise at times. I think under the right system he could develop into a stud.

 

Also seems like a down year for skill positions. RB class is dismal, the WR class has 2 potential studs and then a bunch of question marks, Rudolph is a nice TE prospect, but thats about all, Jordan Cameron might be a dark horse.

 

I think it's the opposite for Gabbert. He has the talent (good size, decent arm strength, good accuracy, etc...) but hasn't shown that he has all the necessary intangibles to be a great NFL QB (pocket presence, toughness, ability to improvise, etc..). As far as Mallet, I personally wouldn't draft him in the first 4 rounds. He just has way too many personality/attitude issues for my liking which is a shame because he might be the most NFL-ready QB in this year's draft.

For those wanting better coverage of the draft, go with NFL Network. Been following the draft very closely the past 6 years and their coverage blows ESPN out of the water IMO. Plus you don't have to listen to Kiper and McShay's fanboy analysis for hours on end.

 

From everything I've read on Gabbert, he's considered extremely football savvy, leads well, and the general consensus on him is that he's mentally prepared for the game.

 

Yup. The issue with Blaine, honestly, is whether he can develop the necessary touch throwing more than 20 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. He has the mental side of the game down (aside from occasionally happy feet), but it's whether he has the downfield accuracy that will determine his fate.

That held him back from greatness at Mizzou, but it may not in the NFL. The Gabbert at Mizzou was essentially a rich man's Josh Freeman (college version), who I swore would bust in the NFL... and look how that's turned out. Here's hoping Gabbert is part two.

 

Was Justin Blackmon not eligible? I know he's listed as a sophomore, but he's 21. I think he would have easily been a top 20 pick and one of the first WR's taken. I'd put him up there with Green and Jones.

 

Ill have to try to dig up the article, but from what I've read, teams should be pretty wary about drafting Gabbert. His "moneyball" stats are suppose to be pretty poor and don't project well into the Pros.

He's projected to be the 2nd ranked WR next year behind Alshon Jeffrey of South Carolina who is a downright beast.

 

Blaine Gabbert will be a franchise QB. He is going to be very good.

Im hoping Julio Jones is still on the board when Rams draft #14.

 

I think that's true for offensive skill players. It's pretty deep for linebackers and DB's.

 

would be fun to see him go there.

 

Do you think Noel Devine and DeAndre Brown can be potential great value late?

DeAndre Brown was considered a better prospect then Jones and Green until he broke his leg....

NFL Network has a seven-hour pre-draft show tomorrow. Before that they have a three-hour Path To The Draft show.

All that time on the air and not once will they talk about the Texans.
