That 'last day of summer, trees you may never see again' feeling is fleeting, though. I'd rather be excited about new, young players and a long prosperous future.
I not that psych about this simply because I'd like the West to win this year. I wanna see the best team out of the West because I can't stand to see Miami win. Right now the Lakers and Oklohoma are not filling me with confidence that they are ready.
I don't see a long prosperous future for us, yet. We may stay in neutral while the Spurs and Mavs eventually slide back down towards us. I get the sinking feeling that rather than overtaking them, our division is simply going to become less competitive, giving us the illusion we're getting better, when really, it was everybody around us that got worse. Granted, that's better than the status quo, but I won't be throwing dirt on the Spurs' grave until we finish ahead of them in the division... which may be a while.
Actually, Parker and Manu only won 3 championships. All 3 of them look washed up anyway. Duncan is done. Manu cannot stay healthy at all, and Parker's game is clearly fading.
expect a tank job next year earning the 1st pick of the draft...Then select some young prodigy (Barnes??)...Duncan leaves on a high note with a ring!!
Funny to see Rockets fans laughing at the Spurs. Rockets don't even make the playoffs, fire their coach, have a stat nerd as GM & spurs have 4 championships and the best record in the western conference. LoL (i'm a rockets fan, but just pointing out the hilarity of this)
Its probably funny because this year is literally their last year of contention. So yes, at this point on, our future certainly looks a lot brighter than the Spurs. We're going uphill, they're going down. We're also ahead of them in the rebuilding phase.
feasting on scrubs and their pride wouldnt allow a epic downfall...Inevitability is coming next year.....35 wins tops!!!
It's pretty evident a changing of the guard is happening: Ginobili (33) and Duncan (35) are clearly out of their prime, and Parker may be as well, he's at least been in a two year mini-slump. They've got no one on the roster that looks like they could step up and fill the void. Lakers are also pretty long in the tooth, and it doesn't seem like Kobe, Artest, or Fisher are going anywhere but down. Odom and Pau are holding strong, but neither one can really lead a team far. Mavs are also on the clock. Dirk's still in his prime, but he's 32. JJ Barea may help ease Kidd's fall off (38), but Terry's 33, Marion's 32, and we have to see how well Butler rebounds and if they keep Chandler and Haywood together. Portland will be okay but have to weather the Roy and Oden losses. Utah's got to rebuild on the fly, Denver may blow it up to rebuild. Who knows what the Hornets do with the league running the front office. Phoenix has fallen off and Starver's just going to wring what remains of Nash's life out. OKC looks like the team to beat going forward, and Memphis could be a serious power if they keep things together. The Rockets aren't far off. We've got youth, we've got a foundation to build on, we've got flexibility to make moves if the opportunity ever comes by. Given how Morey acquired Lowry, Scola, Martin, and Lee, I have hope that he can produce a starting C and SF at a similar caliber. Maybe there's still no star, but a complete, balanced team could go pretty far. I refuse to believe we'll be in mediocrity limbo for too much longer.
Em, I think Denver is in a pretty good position to make a move for a Star player.....They are comparable to us in a way with the people they've acquired...And they managed to improve their team chemistry in the process...Not a Denver fan, but they may can be a player for a big time wing player in the near future.......
spurs could do it. but i don't get the thrill to see the spurs lose. There are one of those good teams that you tip your hat too. Never had any real hate for the spurs.
The Spurs will spiral towards mediocrity, then the Mavs, then the Lakers, while teams like the Thunder, Blazers, and Grizzlies will continue climbing up, up, and up. I'd say in 3-5 years time, we will have an entirely new set of top tier teams in each division. We can only hope that the old guard's demise is hastened somehow, and that we can steal as many decent players from the Hornets as we can before the inevitable crash and burn of that squad. (and the Magic, too!)
I didn't know a basketball dynasty had to do with regular season records. When is the last time the Spurs won a Championship? So yeah like I said their dynasty was over before this playoffs even started.
I seriously doubt that, especially with the Lakers. It doesn't take long to turn a franchise around in either direction. Some franchises will always be losers.
