Maybe I'm just a jaded, stubborn fool, but does anyone else find this info hard to believe? I don't think anyone in the NBA said all that. It's all just so utterly stereotypical... Well maybe that's not the right word, but it seems to be based entirely on what pretty much everybody already thinks about all these players. That totally sounds like something some ESPN columnist wrote.

That's what I think. Player X is just a random player they ask to write each time. But I'm not sure.

Alright, I finally found a listing of the articles in order, and there have only been 4 written this year, which would line up with the KG one being the 4th by this Player X. So when trying to figure out the player, ignore the ref one, the Stephen A Smith one, the first one on cheating, and the one on Worldwide Wes. Or you can probably look at those and figure out which player was writing last year from that, assuming it was one player. For this year's Player X, he wrote the KG article and the column that started off talking about Tiger and advising players to sign that prenup. Here are the other two from this year.

The LeBron decision one is from 10-21-10. The preseason prediction one is from 10-26-10. The Pre-Nup one is from 12-30-10. And finally the trash talking one is from 4-20-11. Hopefully that clears that up.

ESPN cleans these article up. Sometimes alot. The column talking about Tiger's 15 that I posted isn't the actual ESPN article while the others are. Somehow Deadspin got a hold of the original text of it and posted it on their website, which is the copy I posted, while the article published by ESPN was fairly significantly altered, censoring certain things the player said and changing a few phrases to make them less edgy. This atleast gives me the impression that they really do have a player actually writing it.

Alright Geaux Rockets, so far the work I've done has yielded thus:

If we only take the 4 articles written this season, then it's impossible to narrow it down with any certainty, because there's simply not enough information. So, in order to give myself a chance to find the identity of Player X, I took some chances and included the older articles in my investigation as well. I don't know the dates of all the older articles (do you have any more articles by Player X? One poster linked to a Nike forum that said Player X had written articles about Miles Simon, etc. as well). If you have the dates to the World Wide Wes, Groupies, Iverson, and I Hate Referees articles that you already posted in this thread, then it would help a lot if you could post the dates to them too.

Anyway, the facts of the case thus far:

    Not a Celtic
    Not a Spur
    black
American- grew up in AAU ball and xenophobic
Not growing up in diverse environment
Not Charlie Villaneuva, LeBron, Artest, Bosh, Dwight, Kobe, or any other named player
    Attended college
Not teammate of LeBron's in Cleveland
Not a 76er (based on Iverson article)
Was in the NBA last season and probably a veteran
    Married
    Articulate
    Likes attention (not reserved)

Before looking up the marital status of each remaining player, these facts left me with approximately 200 names. I'm going to eliminate the players who cannot ever have been considered stars, even if you stretch it, to get a shorter list. After eliminating players who have never been true NBA stars at any point in their careers, I get a list of about 40 names. With Google and Wikipedia as my main sources, I eliminate players who are probably not married. I am left with about 25 names.

    These are the names remaining:

Deron Williams- not an attention w****, but has done TV work recently
Ben Gordon- doesn't seem to seek attention (DSTSA)
    Rip Hamilton- DSTSA
    Tayshaun Prince- DSTSA
    Rodney Stuckey- DSTSA
TJ Ford- not much of a star
    Danny Granger- DSTSA
Corey Maggette- not much of a star
    Michael Redd- possible
    Jamal Crawford- possible
    Jameer Nelson- possible
Jason Richardson- not much of a star
Caron Butler- one of prime suspects
    Shawn Marion- DSTSA
    Jason Terry- prime suspect
    OJ Mayo- possible
David West- unlikely, being a teammate of Chris Paul, but maybe he doesn't like Paul
    LaMarcus Aldridge- DSTSA
    Marcus Camby- DSTSA
    Paul Millsap- possible
    Vince Carter- possible
Josh Childress- not much of a star
Jared Dudley- not much of a star but likes attention and is media savvy
Channing Frye- not much of a star but likes attention and media savvy

The main suspects I would say at this point are Caron Butler, Deron Williams, Jason Terry, Michael Redd, Jamal Crawford, Jameer Nelson, Jason Richardson, and OJ Mayo. Further winnowing down of the list of names pending additional information.

The player is also not a member of the Bobcats, Knicks, Bulls, Thunder, Cavs, is unlikely to be a member of the Lakers (talks about Lakers), Magic (trash talks about Dwight, so that eliminates Jameer Nelson and Jason Richardson), and Nuggets (talks about Melo and Nuggets in predictions) based on the articles.

The guy on Niketalk just copied what this guy on RealGm wrote:
    http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1000111&p=23243985#p22909250

If you click at the link, you'll see he links to another thread on RealGm, where you'll find a few older articles (page 1 & 3).

Here's the Miles Simon part he's referring to:
This year's stuff is compelty different from last year's though.
I'm pretty certain it's a different guy now. Sounds like a Lakers player to me, probably Derek Fisher.
The guy who wrote the stuff last year most definitely is Jason Terry.

Makes a lot of sense, too, with two of the main ESPN guys being J.A. Adande (L.A.) and Marc Stein (Dallas).

Well you can call Garnett dirty but yesterday they talked about it during game 4 against the Knicks.

Jeff Green said how he used to hate KG when he was with OKC, but once he was traded he understood what KG is all about. He said KS always has your back and he always supports you. He is all about his team and he hates opponents.

And really, it may be a good thing. You play to win. To beat your enemy. And KG is one of the best and you sure are not gonna out compete him.

And to say something wrong about other person without saying your name is silly and weak. Be a man and say who you are.

Just another reason to not like today's NBA. And proof that I'm not living in the past when I talk about the 'good old days' of the 80s and 90s.

Yeah, this sounds close to exactly right to me. Im 99% sure that this year's guy is different from last years guy, but also 99% sure that both years they had one player do it for the whole year. And yeah, at this point Id be pretty surprised if last year's guy wasn't Jason Terry. As for this year, I agree that it seems like it could definitely be a Laker, because I think referring to a team doesn't necesarilly mean he doesn't play for them. My thought, though, is that is almost has to be a small forward (or someone who guards alot of 3s atleast) because of how much he talks about how hard it is to defend KD, Melo, and even Gallinari and he's probably been on the recieving end of some weird ass whispers from RonRon.

My guess: Brandon Roy. He's black, articulate, a star, and plays the 3. Then here are the two biggest things that stand out to me. First, he had a kid in 2007 out of wedlock, proposed to his baby momma shortly after the child was born, then didn't get married until 2010. That's a real long engagement that could definitely indicate problems between the two, which fits in pefectly with "Now, I'm happily married. Wasn't always this way. We've overcome a lot of problems, especially early. And I think we could've avoided a lot of our problems had I known what I know now." The 2nd thing that stood out that could link it to Roy, and maybe this is a loose connection but Im not sure, is he heard straight from a Celtics player before the season that they were scared of the Heat. Nate Robinson was on the Celtics at the time and he and Roy both played together at Washington in college if Im not mistaken, so it would make sense that they are friends and would talk like that. So Im gonna go with Brandon Roy as my guess.

Nice guess but I think if Player X wrote about trash talking and his love/fond memories of trash talking, he must be a talker himself IMO. Brandon Roy, as much as he talks off the court with his complaints, don't seem to be a player that talks a lot of trash on the court. I think Odom is a pretty good guess.

Yeah, I had overlook that aspect of it and I haven't really ever considered Roy a trash talker either. BUT, after a little research, it appears that he may be more of a talker than we realized.

Here's an piece from an interview with Nicolas Batum.

More and more Im thinking it's B-Roy.
