Tough tough call. I've been a big Rubio backer but never expected Lowry to step up his game like he did last year. Throw in Dragic's play since the trade and our PGuard position is pretty set. Honestly...don't know.
He also thought Williams could be a game-changer and he was only worth a low first rounder. Btw Lowry is a game-changer already.
It's a gamble on who will be a better player in the future. The better player will give you a better chance of winning. If that's Rubio, that's why you'd do the trade. You're not going to win a championship without taking a few calculated gambles. I don't know if that's Rubio; my only point is that you don't dismiss a Rubio trade just because he's a point guard (especially when all you're trading is a point guard). Btw, if you're trying to trade for a Dwight Howard or something, is your package going to look more attractive with Lowry in it or Rubio? (Please don't tell me Lowry would be a deal-killer for Howard too!)
It's a HUGE gamble but Rubio would bring the fans in the building. The Rockets would have their new Franchise face and would be on Spanish (the nation, not the language) TV. Straight up? Then Morey is not planning on trading for a Superstar like CP3 or Howard. We will be Rebuilding via scorched earth. I'd love the trade but I'd hate it just as much.
I don't understand the reasoning here. If a star PG hasn't taken a team all the way, why would that stop you from swapping Lowry-Rubio? All it would (presumably) cost you would be Lowry, who also is a PG incapable of leading a team all the way. Of course, that's assuming the most optimistic scenario that Ricky will be a star. But if you think he'll be a star, you absolutely do the deal. That said, I'd be curious to know Morey's re-adjusted opinion of Ricky.
As much as I love Lowry's game, he isn't a player you build around. You'd love to have him as a complementary piece to a championship core, but you'd first have to have a core, which we don't have. Williams is a low-risk, high-reward type deal; if it took more than a protected pick to get him, I'm not sure Morey would have made the trade. Rubio on the other hand, if the reports are to be believed, Morey was willing to gut the roster for. Apparently, Morey was and maybe still is convinced he could be a key member of a championship team.
I would probably say it is worth the risk the rockets right now are not going contend for anything, so I dont really have a problem trading anyone, especially if it is for someone that has a chance to be something special If it doesnt work out, oh well, they are still not a playoff team, so no big deal to me
If it happened, I would give it a chance before jumping off a cliff. I understand why it would be desirable. At the same time, Rubio shot 32% last year and (for all the hype on his playmaking) only had a 2:1 assist to turnover ratio against inferior competition. So it's not a move I would personally make.
the only PG realistically available I would be willing to trade Lowry for at this point is Deron Williams. You could make the argument for Chris Paul, but I would have a hard time making that trade within the division...
No! Kyle Lowry brings some much to this team other than just scoring. He's the kind of player that would gel a team together with his work ethic and leadership. These are very important qualities for a point guard. Does Rubio have any leadership qualities? Lowry may not ave. 20ppg and 10asst., but his heart and work ethic are contagious. Think about Derek Fisher... He has just as many rings as Kobe. He's not the scorer or passer of defender, but what he brings that time is toughness abs stability. I hope we can agree that Kyle Lowry is better than Derek Fisher in EVERY ASPECT OF THE GAME except maybe shooting, and even that might be questionable now.
Hasn't Rubio sucked in Euroleague play? I'm not sure if I want to bring him over, especially since he hasn't shown that much improvement in the past 2 years. Lowry is already a top 10 PG, with the potential of being in the top 7. There are just too many great PGs in the league right now and Lowry has the potential to be on of them.
DD I really respect you but it sounds like your still hurt because Lowry took AB's spot and got him traded. Kyle had his best year in the NBA, while Rubio had (probably) his worst in a European League (NOT THE NBA). So how can you justify this trade?
Fisher and Horry are the unsung heros, but you really can't compare them to Lowry. Shane Battier is like that too, but Lowry was playing at an all-star level after Brooks was traded. I get what you're saying, but Lowry brings all that Fisher brings, plus a lot more. This is why we don't just trade that away for Rubio, who has a shaky shot, and skeptical defense.
If we trade for Rubio and if he shows only " flashes of brilliance " .. wont he be a more attractive trade "Asset" for some other team than Lowry.. to land a player like Dwight Howard , Chris Paul or some other super star..
