Yeah and the last lotto pick was how Houston got Patterson, who was in the mentioning for ROY and will be an all-star someday.
I actually think this is the year that the Rockets could trade for a top 5 pick. There should be at least one team wanting out of a supposed weak draft. However, I think it will take a package of Lowry and either Martin or Scola to do this. And Houston would also probably have to take back a bad contract or two. So would this player be worth it for Houston to lose two starters and a #14 pick?
Your thinking is terribly flawed. First of all, 90% of the teams with a top 5 pick suck. Really suck. That's why they are getting that pick. Why on earth would they have an interest in paying an aging vetern millions when they can lock a guy in for 3 years for cheap and re-energize their franchise with a young exciting player????? Teams don't trade away potential franchise players.....unless You are a team that is going for a championship run and you feel you only need a veteran all-star to get there. Heck, we traded away Rudy Gay for Shane Battier - it was the reverse of the situation you described. But why would any team take on K-mart if they won like 24 games last year?? The only way we can do what you suggest is if a team with a top-pick is actually a contender for just a year or two more. If Orlando had a top five pick...sure, they might do it if there was no sure thing in the draft. But otherwise, you are talking 1 in a 100 shot.
I’m not saying you can’t get good player with #14, but it likely won’t be franchise player. And it likely won’t be enticing trade bait to get franchise player. That’s what this whole thread is about…how to get top five pick where franchise player most likely lies. As we saw from last season, Daryl Morey could not trade his #14 plus more assets for top 5 pick he wanted.
I love smart women. Listen to HP and DG. Personally I'm all for tanking if we really suck. The problem is we are just as good as Memphis and they are about to beat the Spurs. If Yao comes back healthy and we can upgrade Bud we can beat anyone not name Bud. I know Yao is rolling dice but it is less of a roll than tanking. And gettin an upgrade on Bud is doable. We don't need Melo but Iguadala would be great. There's this Leonard kid in the draft if we can move up about 3 spots we should have. I think that's doable. I would do a 2 for 1 if it could get us into the top ten. I would trade our 2 first and anybody not name Martin Lowry PPat Lee for Biyombo.
I feel like we had clear direction, now we have none. Especially if we let Chuck walk in favor of re-signing Yao.
Is Morey patient enough to wait for a star to develop? For Instance If Air Bud takes off in year 5 . . .are we willing to wait and see? Or will we 'sell high' in year 4. Rocket River
Sticks and stones may break his bones but words will nev.... Actually, his padded Kyle Lowry costume will probably protect him from sticks and stones.
I guess this is your lame attempt at making a joke or are you trying to defend the guy who called you all kinds of names and humiliated you on this bbs? Either way, I hope you're watching Trevor Ariza ball like he always does in the playoffs on both ends of the court.
Ariza averaged 2.7 more points per game in 14 more minutes per game. Lee shot at 44 % from the field and 41 % from 3 point land compared to Ariza's 40 % and 30%. Ariza made 5 M more this season. DM said it himself. Criticize him for signing Brad Miller (on Adelman really) but don't make ish up. Ariza was 5-13 in game 3. 2-13 in game 1. What do you have to say about that?
Not defending him, kid is a tool. I honestly do think he sits at his comp in a Kyle Lowry costume. Also, are you seriously trying to tell me that Ariza is playing well right now?
I agree with that. Lol, that's hilarious. Absolutely, he's playing very good all-around basketball as he usually does in the playoffs. He's providing tangibles and intangibles...solid D on Kobe and even outscoring him a couple of times as well. Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread. Come into the Lakers-Hornets thread if you want to explain to us why he's isn't playing well.
Yes, Trading Kevin Martin for Ryan Bowen is 100% tanking. Trading a star player away for nothing is equal to trying to lose games on purpose. The so called banking on potential is also tanking. In reality no team is going to tell its players to lose games on purpose, because the players don't want their values to drop and the coaches don't want to lose their jobs. But if you trade away all the veterans that contribute to winning, and put in inexperienced and young players, you will most likely lose a lot more games than ever before. Or you are like Cleveland, lost franchise cornerstone for nothing, injury to key players. They technically didn't tank the season, they are just bad because their rosters are full of D-leaguers.
