Tips on preparing for a job interview?

Internships are for grooming people they want to stay with the company long term.

Convince them that this is the type of job and company you want to make a career out of. Show an interest in the work and the company, but don't fake it, just be sincere. They don't want to spend time and/or money training you only to see you go somewhere else after you graduate.

I like to refer to specific words in the job description or the company website that stood out to me, explain why it made you interested in the company and the job. Have a story to tell, something to show you've put some thought into the interview and why you are there in the first place.

Learn as much as about the company and the job as you can. Specifically relate your skills to the skill needed for the job. Have some standard stories ready for an interview: talk about a time you had to be a leader, talk about a time you had to work as a part of a team, talk about a time you had to work with someone who was hard to work with and how did you deal with it, etc

 

Make sure you wear the tag on your lapel.

 

Wear a tie and don't be late.

 

Tell yourself you don't care if you get this job or not (but don't show it outwardly). Might be terrible advice, but it helped me stay calm and be myself during the interview.

 

Show as much cleavage as possible.

 

Know how you want to answer the more common stock interview questions: what are your strengths/weaknesses? Why do you want to work for _______? Give an example of a time you used good leadership skills. Etc. Don't memorize pat answers, but have an idea of what you want to say. Have some questions in mind that you can ask about the job/employer. What is a typical workday like? How would they describe the office environment, general coworker dynamics, or the like? Not compensation or time off questions, but something to engage the interviewer and show that you are interested.

Turn the interview around on the interviewer. This takes the off-guard and puts them on the defensive. "How long have you been with the company?" "What are your plans for the future." "Where did you go to school?"

 

More information regarding the company would help us giving you better advice. I would check if they have any social media presence; study them and see what they are talking about on Twitter and Facebook. Don't be too hard on yourself, the best interview is when you feel like you are just having a conversation. Good luck and let us know.

Actually I think it's pretty good advice. It enables you to go in there without a farking care in the world. Your resume gets you the interview...big balls and bs gets you the job.

 

When he asks you "where do you see yourself in 5 years?"... don't say "doing your wife."

Just relax, try to have a conversation instead of sounding like a robot spitting out canned answers.
